INDIANAPOLIS 500 MAY 2004

Homepage

Going to see the Indy 500 had suddenly become an ambition of mine when Sam Hornish signed with Penske. Put the best IRL driver with the team that had the most success recently in the big race meant I had to go and see my main man.

Last year was not an easy year for me and I wasn't sure I was up to arranging a trip. I really wanted someone else to organise it for me, but I couldn't find any travel agent in the United Kingdom that were prepared to take my money. There were companies in the USA that charged an arm and a leg to sort out your hotel and track seats, but it still meant I had to organise my flights.

I was going to leave it for a year, but fellow Steelers' fan, Peter Thorpe encouraged me to go in 2004, so I decided to give it a chance and make an attempt to organise it on the web.

Thank you Expedia. I sorted the hotel, car hire and flights with no problems and then paid a visit to the Indianapolis Speedway's web site to purchase the tickets for the race.

I learnt a lot on this first visit and if there is anyone out there in the United Kingdom that want to see the race next year, please email me if you have any questions. It was a smashing trip and one that I want to take again - especially as Sam didn't win this year.
