Match
Reports
Somewhat short and limited
information!
Vs
Broadstone (H)
10th May 2003
The 2nds got a win on the board, with Colin Handley playing a
captains innings of 65. With Broadstone 2nds needing 7 off the last
over, up stepped the legend that is John Ridout to take 3 wickets
helping his match figures to 6-33.
Vs
Bere Regis (H)
24th May 2003
The rain missed Wimborne, meaning the 2nds
could win convincingly against Bere Regis. Having started solidly with
John Ridout hitting 38, Stuart Gibb and 'Charlie' scored 39 and 38*
respectively, helping Wimborne to 184-6. Bere Regis never really got on
top of the run rate, and it was left to Wimborne to take the game to
them to try and get all the wickets and the extra points that brings. We
fell 2 short, and they made 125 from all their overs, with Jon Wilton
taking 4-34.
Vs
Pimperne (H)
31st May 2003
Some big hitting meant that
the 2nds were chasing leather for 45 overs against Pimperne, leaving
them chasing 225, and they fell short.
Vs
Cattistock (A)
7th June 2003
The 2nd team travelled to
Cattistock, who batted first and scored 201. John Ridout injured himself
3 balls into his first spell but battled on to bowl his overs. He was
joined on the injury list by Wilts, while it was left to Colin Handley
and Aaron Day to make it a close ending. They fell short however, and
travel to Shaftsbury next Saturday.
Vs
Blandford (H)
28th June 2003
The second team bowled first, and
with the help of 5-34 from Chris Cornish, restricted Blandford 2nds to
165. Another good performance in the field, but the total could have
been less and left a bit of work to do. Adam Clark got the 2nds off to a
good start with 43, helped also by Jon Wilton who hit some great shots
for his 31. There was only 1 wicket left and a few overs, but Aaron Day
hit the winning four to cheers from the nervous watching players!
Vs
Dorchester (H)
5th July 2003
The second team bowled
first, and with the help of a six wicket haul from Aaron Day, restricted
Dorchester 2nds to 211. A bad tempered display from Dorchester in the
field was to follow, while Wimborne were thankful to Dave Perry getting
them close to the target with 93. He was the last wicket to fall in the
last over however leaving Wimborne 5 runs short.
Vs
Broadstone (A)
12th July 2003
Away to Broadstone, the
second team bowled first, as Broadstone made 210. Aaron Day started his
good day by taking 4 wickets, but the total was too much for the also
depleted Wimborne side, as they eventually made 146 all out, with Aaron
the main run scorer also with 46.
Vs
Swanage (H)
19th July 2003
The 2nd team had a
struggle against Swanage, who made 232 with the wicket takers for
Wimborne being Robbie Whittle (4-56) and Tim Bartlett (3-39), who also
got a run out. Jon Wilton made a spirited effort to get chase the target
with 39, and Tim Bartlett was also in the runs with 35. But running out
of overs and batsmen, Wimborne made 182.
Vs
Pimperne (A)
2nd August 2003
The second team struggled away to
Pimperne, who scored 280 in their 45 overs. Jon Wilton gave a spirited
reply, scoring more than a run a ball in his 42, but Wimborne never had
the depth of batting to give them the win they vitally need. They were
eventually all out for 228.
Vs
Shaftsbury (A)
16th August 2003
Already resigned to relegation from division two, the second
team's morale went from bad to worse as Shaftsbury scored an enormous
320. In reply, Wimborne could muster just 75 runs.
