The beetles we keep in culture are all types of Fruit Beetles, these belong to the Scarabaedae family and are amongst the most beautiful of the beetle groups. The reason for keeping this particular group is that the adults are fruit feeding with the grubs feeding on leaf litter, wood and roots and so are easy to rear and study. This group of beetles covers a vast array of types from the giant African Goliath beetle with it's velvety-looking cryptic patterns to the stunning metallic iridescence of the bright emerald green Cetonia aeruginosa.
