Grand Prix 15 (29.7.08)
Cippenham Table Tennis Club’s weekly Grand Prix event continues to throw up new champions. The latest series, the fifteenth, produced the thirteenth different winner in Terry Osborne. In fact, Osborne is not even a member of Cippenham proving that this go-ahead table tennis club based at The Westgate School is truly a community-based environment in which anyone can go and play on a Tuesday or Thursday evening.
Osborne won the first of the
weekly events he entered at the beginning of July and followed this up with another
win later in the month. In between he had a second place and another outside of
the top eight and this gave him enough points to win the series. He did not
even need his other second place gained in the final week.
In second place overall was Cippenham’s
brightest junior star Eddie Mitchell. Mitchell won two of the three weeks that
he entered but could only finish fourth in the final week. Tony Stead, who just
pipped Elroy Hull for third place overall, and Jonathan Evans were the winners
of the other two events.
