Grand Prix (30.10.07)

Graham’s title

Graham Trimming is the latest winner of the Grand Prix series at Cippenham Table Tennis Club. This popular event, open to all Club members, is played every Tuesday evening and is run as a six-week series. Trimming won three of the five weeks that he entered bagging a record 420 points and beat second placed Steve Smith, the previous series winner, 12-10 in the fifth and deciding game of the final match. However, the title had been won by the time Trimming reached the semi-finals of the final week.

Anthony Gardner, one of a number of the Club’s junior players that take part, demonstrated his recent improvement with a victory of Gerald Finesilver, a successful player for Chalfont in the Slough League, to claim third place overall.

The winners of the other three weeks were Steve Buck, Krysztof Zemelka and Steve Smith.

Veterans’ British League (27-28.10.07)

Out of their depth

The Cippenham team found the going tough at Hereford in the first weekend of the Veterans’ British League after being placed in one of two equal First Divisions. Not a point was gained and only three individual wins were registered in the five matches. Two of these were by Charlie Childs and the other by Roger Hookey while Mike Rhodes and Paul Baker were both unsuccessful.
