Women’s British League 1st Weekend
(1-2.3.08)
Rachel Farquhar scored a perfect ten for Cippenham
when the Women’s British League first weekend took place at Bristol earlier this
month. Such was the fifteen year olds dominance over her opponents in Division
3 that all ten matches were won 3-0, a staggering games return of 30-0.
Farquhar was assisted by good results also from team mates Sue Hayes and Caroline
Linz as Cippenham collected nine points from a possible ten and sit in second
place, level on points and just two sets behind leaders Southampton West, in
this eight-team division.
Southampton West had French player Mihilda Sillard
playing at number one and her two wins, both 3-0, over Hayes and Linz were
responsible for the only point dropped by Cippenham over the weekend. Farquhar,
playing at number three for Cippenham, duly won her two matches and Linz just
got the better of Sarah Warwick for a 3-3 draw.
Otherwise it was plain sailing in the former
ship-building town of Bristol as Cippenham beat DML Woolwell C and Halton B
both 5-1 and St. Andrews B and Waterside both 4-2.
Backing up Farquhar’s perfect ten, Linz won six of
her nine matches and Hayes, occupying the more difficult number one position,
four out of ten.
