Annual Club Awards

Roy, Steve and Angela honoured

Roy Linz was the deserved recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award for 2007-8 at Cippenham Table Tennis Club’s recent annual presentation evening and Anniversary Party. The award is the most prestigious that the Club makes and is named after the late Karen Mitchell. Her husband Charles and daughter Steph honoured the Club by making the presentation at an event superbly organized as ever by Jacquie Lovell.

The award to Roy was in recognition of many years of service to the Club, mainly in the coaching field where he regularly assists, especially at Sue Hayes’ Wednesday evening elite session. He is also a key contributor to the success of the Southern Region junior training squad that meets at Cippenham, is the Club members’ contact point with kit and equipment suppliers Bribar and also acts as Duty Officer at weekends when required.

All the Club’s other volunteers were remembered with small gifts and the Club is proud to have one of the largest, most competent and most hard working groups of volunteers to be found in the sport of table tennis. It is never forgotten that without these unsung heroes the Club could not hope to operate its busy and successful activity schedule.

Also honoured were the Club’s players of the year. The senior award went to Steve Munson who was one of the most reliable members of the Club’s British League squads last season and who memorably won all thirteen of his matches as Buckinghamshire won promotion to the Premier Division of the County Championships. The junior award went to Angela Oetiker in recognition of the progress she has made in the last year through her dedicated practice.
