Grand Prix 14 (17.6.08)
Cippenham Table Tennis Club’s latest Grand Prix, a weekly events run on Tuesday evenings during the open public sessions, culminated in a winner’s prize for 17-years old Ricky Hardcastle.
It was Hardcastle’s sheer consistency that was too much for
his opponents to match. He became the fourth winner in a row to prevail in the
Grand Prix series despite failing to win any of the six individual weekly
events. In fact, there were six different winners: Steve Smith snr, Tony
Andrews, Tony Stead, Steve Smith, Sue Hayes and Graham Trimming. Hardcastle had
two second place finishes, three thirds and a sixth.
Steve Smith senior, father of the Club’s new Events Officer
Steve Smith, collected enough points in his three events to claim second place
and pip Anthony Gardner into third. A total of 32 players took part in this
popular event.
Cippenham Table Tennis will shortly be deciding its teams to
play in the Slough and Maidenhead leagues next season. Anyone who would like to
join the club to play in these popular local weekly competitions from September
onwards is invited to phone Graham Trimming on 01628 529609.
