- British Schools' Championships

- Gemma Chapman survived the weekend
entirely unbeaten as she won three events at Largs, Scotland. She
guided England to the gold medal position in the U16 girls' team event
and then followed that up with success in the girls' singles and doubles
events. David Hayes and Marc Armstrong were in action for the
England U16 Boys' B team that finished third with David beating Marc in
the quarters of the singles and the two combining for a semi-final place
in the doubles.

- Hammersley Cup Final 22.6.03
- Slough retained the Hammersley Cup, the
national knock-out competition for cadet girls' teams, beating Hastings
7-2 in the final at Cippenham. Slough were represented by the host
club's trio of Sylvana Bielec and Caroline Linz, who both won their
three matches, and Catherine Hayes who won one. Teams from the
Cippenham club have now won 17 national team titles in the past eight
seasons.

- Cippenham Veterans' Summer 2-Star
Open 15.6.03
- Both titles traveled across the border
to Wales at the 7th Cippenham Veterans' Summer tournament. Top
seeds Steve Hall and Regina Donovan were the victors in the finals over
Dave Harvey (Gs) and Cippenham member Mary Heffernan respectively.

- Luxembourg International Youth Championships
13-15.6.03
- 10 years-old Gavin Evans celebrated his
England debut with a fantastic win in the mini-boys' (under-13) singles
against a strong international field in Luxembourg. After beating
a Swede 3-0 in the semis Gavin overcame Philipp Floerke (GER) 3-1 in the
final. Joanna Parker came third in the junior girls' event and
Bradley Evans ninth in the cadet boys'.

- National Under-10/11/12/13
Championships 7-8.6.03
- Gavin Evans won an unprecedented four
titles at this event - U10, U11 and U12 singles and the U12 Boys'
Doubles with brother Myles. Myles also reached the semi-final of
the U12 singles while Katie Rule and Rachel Farquhar were runners-up in
U11 and U10 singles respectively. Chris Witchell reached the semis
of the U11 singles.

- Annual General Meeting 1.6.03
- All existing Officers and Committee
members were re-elected into their positions for another term and were
joined by Robin Farquhar (Deputy Chairman) and Gemma Chapman (Committee
member). Graham Trimming (General Secretary) presented his 30th
annual report and praised the efforts of the Club's management team who
continue to keep Cippenham in the forefront of English table
tennis. Treasurer Peter Hillier reported another successful
financial year with the Club's cash reserves now topping £50,000.

- Cippenham Young Players' Summer
Festival 31.5-1.6.03
- Another bumper entry for the annual
two-day Summer Festival saw sixteen tables on the go for this 1-star
open. David Hayes (U16BS) and Melanie Farquhar (U14GS) were the
main home club winners while Katie Rule did well to reach three finals,
including a win in the U14 consolation while Myles Evans and Sylvana
Bielec were each a runner-up in one of the ten main events.

- Six Nations Cadet Competition
- Cippenham's Bradley Evans returned from
Sweden with a team gold medal as England beat Germany, France,
Netherlands and Denmark and drew with the host nation to win a
prestigious title. Bradley won 8 out of 10 in the team
event. Bradley and his younger brother Gavin have both been
selected to play for England in the Luxembourg Youth Championships.

- Slough League AGM 29.5.03
- Cippenham members Jeremy Bateman
(General Secretary), Peter Hillier (Treasurer), Graham Trimming
(Fixtures Secretary), Clive Perry (Competitions Secretary) and Elroy
Hull (Inter-League Secretary) were re-elected into their positions at
the Slough League's Annual General Meeting.

- National Team Finals 25.5.03
- The Cippenham women's team turned in a
magnificent performance to retain their National Club Championship title
and win the Gainsford Cup for the second time. Led by Gemma
Chapman, who won all six of her matches during the day, and supported by
crucial wins by Sue Hayes and Jane Dickens, Cippenham beat Bank Street
(Liverpool) 5-4 and Bramley Ebenezer (Leeds) 5-3 to clinch the
title. The Slough cadet boys team of David Hayes, James Milton and
Ashley Shaw were disappointed at only finishing second in the Leach Cup
with 5-2 wins over Chesterfield and Hallam, but a 3-5 reverse against
Darlington.

- National Junior/Cadet Championships
17-18.5.03
- Four Cippenham members reached the
quarters of the Cadet Boys' Singles but only Bradley Evans made it
through to the semis. Gavin Evans, David Hayes and James Milton
were the other three. Bradley and Gavin combined also to reach the
final of the Cadet Boys' Doubles while Joanna Parker won the Junior
Girls' Doubles and Junior Mixed Doubles but lost in the final of the
Junior Girls' Singles.

- Slough League Youth Division 4.5.03
- Cippenham Goblins (Alex Polding, William
Mitchell, Frazer Harper) clinched the Slough Youth Division title with
the runners-up spot going to Cippenham Beggars (Alex Lovell, David
Baker).

- British League annual awards 30.4.03
- Cippenham Table Tennis Club has won two
awards in the British League for the season just finished. First
team captain Clive Payne will receive the award for Player of the Season
in Division 1 South, just as he did last season, while the Club itself
has gained the Programme of the Season award.

- Slough Masters Tournament 29.4.03
- Mark Banks retained his Slough Masters
title tonight, beating his Cippenham Pirates team mate James Milton 11-8
in the fifth in the final. Mark won the first two games but James
came storming back to set up a thrilling finish. Earlier James had
beaten Slough Closed champion David Hayes, also in five games, in a
titanic first round clash between the two cadets. Mike Rhodes and
Graham Trimming were the other semi-finalists.

- Cippenham Junior 2-Star Open 20.4.03
- For the fourth year running, both titles
at the Junior Open were won by home players. David Hayes and
Caroline Linz were the successful players this time with Katie Rule also
winning the Girls' Consolation event. Good performances also came
from runner-up Marc Armstrong and the Shaw brothers, Ashley and Oliver
who both reached the quarters.

- National Cadet Masters 12-13.4.03
- Bradley Evans was Cippenham's most
successful player at the weekend, finishing fifth while the best overall
performance against expectation came from Melanie Farquhar.
Melanie excelled in finishing in seventh place and only a deuce in the
fifth loss stopped her being two places higher. David Hayes
finished a slightly disappointing eighth, at the foot of a three-way tie
and Rebecca Tweedy twelfth. Cippenham's other four contestants
(making a total of eight out of a national field of 32), Myles and Gavin
Evans, Sylvana Bielec and Caroline Linz failed to qualify for the second
day's play.

- National Junior Masters 5-6.4.03
- Cippenham's Gemma Chapman finished in a
creditable fifth place in this prestigious national event behind three
members of the England senior women's team plus Kate Steward.
Former Cippenham player Joanna Parker was runner-up. Emily Tucker
also did well to qualify for the second day's play, primarily through a
tremendous victory over the much higher ranked Lauren Springthorpe and
eventually finished twelfth.

- British Primary Schools'
Championships 4-6.4.03
- Cippenham's three representatives for
England in the British Primary Schools' Championships in Blackburn were
all very successful. Nine-years old Gavin Evans was unbeaten as
his England team won the boys' event while his older brother Myles lost
only once. England beat Scotland, Ireland, Isle of Man and
Guernsey all 10-0 and Wales 9-1. In the individual event Gavin won
the Boys' Singles having eliminated Myles in the semi-final. Katy
Rule, making her international debut, lost only once as England were
runners-up to Ireland in the team event and then went out to the same
Irish player in the quarter-final of the Girls' Singles.

- Slough League championship 27.3.03
- By beating club mates Cippenham Rogues
7-3, Cippenham Pirates have clinched the championship of the Slough and
District League. The team members were Mark Banks, James Milton,
Geoff Harris and Robin Benwell. This is Cippenham's 19th title
overall since 1978 and the 10th in succession. Both are records.

- County Championships Junior Premier
2nd Weekend 22-23.03.03
- The Bucks junior team won all four
matches as the Junior Premier Division concluded to finish in fourth
place. New Slough MS champion David Hayes was unbeaten in his eight
matches while Gavin Evans and Gemma Chapman both won seven, Bradley
Evans six and Emily Tucker five.

- Club Championships & Handicap
Tournament 22.3.03
- The main two events were dominated by
Robert Hansell and Mark Jackson with Robert beating Mark 11-9 in the
fifth of a high quality Open Singles final after the pair had earlier
won the Open Doubles together. Nick Hansell (VS), Ashley Shaw (JBS
and CS), Melanie Farquhar (JGS) and Alex Polding (U13S) won the age
group events.

- Slough Sports Awards 21.3.03
- A staggering four awards were won by the
Club at the Mayor of Slough's Annual Sports Awards tonight. Pride
of place must go to Club Chairman and Coaching Officer Ken Phillips who
won the prestigious Service to Sport Award for his dedication to table
tennis over the past two decades. Gareth Herbert, the Club's
England international and Commonwealth Games double gold medallist, won
Senior Sportsperson of the Year while the precocious 9-years old Gavin
Evans, ranked 2 in Southern Region U18, won Junior Sportsman of the
Year. The Club itself won the Community Club of the Year award for
the third time.

- British League 4th Weekend 15-16.3.03
- Cippenham I had a fantastic weekend
winning seven out of a possible eight points and beating the only two
teams that eventually finished above them in Division 1 South.
Starting in fifth position at the beginning of the weekend the team
finished in a very creditable third position. Martin Adams
and Clive Payne both won seven of their eight matches while Mark Butler
won five. The second team went in the opposite direction, slipping from
third to fifth with one win and one draw from four starts. Robert
Lemon was the most successful player with six wins.

- Slough Closed Championships 2.3.03
- Cippenham players won all the major
events at the Slough Closed Championships with David Hayes leading the
way. David won MS, MD with Mark Banks, JBS, JBD with Edward
Mitchell and the Handicap Singles. The only event to get away from
David was the Cadet Singles where he was beaten by James Milton.
Denise Rolfe did the double of LD and XD while the U12 Singles was won
by Alex Polding and VS by Mike Rhodes.

- National Junior/Cadet Trials
22-23.2.03
- Cippenham members won two of the four
events in the national trials at Stratford-upon-Avon over the weekend
and both beat other Cippenham members in the final round. Gemma
Chapman reaped the reward for her hard work by winning the Junior Girls'
event, beating her JBL team-mate Gemma Yarnley in the final while
9-years-old Gavin Evans, now living in Nottinghamshire, beat Slough's
David Hayes in the Cadet Boys' event.

- Junior British League 2nd Weekend
15-16.2.03
- All four JBL teams came back from the
final weekend staged at RAF Cosford empty-handed, although this was not
unexpected. The boys' team finished 3rd in Division 1 while the
three girls' teams were 3rd in the Premier Division, 4th in Division 1
and 6th in Division 2.

- Veterans' British League 2nd Weekend
8-9.2.03
- Even without injured star player Clive
Payne the Cippenham men's team became Division 2 champions and therefore
gain their second title in successive years. Paul Baker was superb
as he won 16 of his 20 matches during the season while Mike Rhodes won
12. Ken Philipson, deputising for Clive, made a telling
contribution winning half of his ten matches. To cap a great
weekend, Cippenham were also awarded the Team of the Weekend.

- Cippenham Veterans' 2-Star Open
- The home club's Mike Rhodes went two
rounds further than his seeded position to reach the final of the Men's
Singles where he lost to top seed and previous champion Dave
Harding. In an all Welsh final of the Women's Singles, Kim Johnson
got the better of Regina Donovan.

- Women's British League 2nd Weekend
25-26.1.03
- Cippenham had an uneventful second
weekend in the WBL dropping from third to fourth position but this was
still the highest finishing position in the Club's history. A draw
with London Progress enabled Cippenham to finish third at the end of
stage one but then lost all three matches in the second stage to finish
bottom of the top four group.

- British League 3rd Weekend 19.1.03
- Both Cippenham teams tasted victory and
defeat in the third weekend of the British League at their home
club. The first team started with an all-round team effort in
which the difference was a brace from Martin Adams to beat London
Progress II 5-3. The afternoon match was disappointing as
Cippenham slumped to a 0-4 deficit against Ellenborough before reviving
to 3-5. The "B" team suffered a 2-6 defeat at the hands
of leaders PSP Westinsure in the morning match but then secured a great
6-2 (but much closer than that suggests) win against Hastings in the
afternoon. Two each from Rob Lemon and Robert Hansell made the
difference.

- Munster Junior Open 18-19.1.03
- Cippenham's David Hayes made the trip
across to Ireland this weekend and showed that he is better than any of
the home players at his age group. With all the top Irish players
competing David won the Cadet Boys' Singles and reached the semi-final
of the Junior Boys' Singles.

- Cippenham U14/16 1-Star Open 12.1.03
- Cippenham players won three of the four
events on offer at this 1-Star tournament that attracted 160
entries. Melanie Farquhar topped the bill clinching both the U16
and U14 Girls' Singles while James Milton beat the much higher ranked
Vytas Rybakas to take the U16BS. Rybakas almost lost in the semis to
another Cippenham player Ashley Shaw.

- Bucks Senior/Veterans' Closed 8.12.02
- Robert Hansell and Jane Dickens were the
stars of the Bucks Senior Closed, taking all five main events between
them. Robert won the men's Singles and then combined with another
Cippenham player, Mark Jackson, to win the Men's Doubles. Mark
then combined with Jane to win the Mixed Doubles as the latter completed
the treble with Women's Singles and Women's Doubles.

- Cippenham Banded 2-Star Open 8.12.02
- Steve Munson (Band 1), Steve Preston
(Band 2), David Langer (Band 3) and Anusha Seneviratne won the major
honours at the firstr unning of a Cippenham Banded Open. Local
interest was supplied my Melanie Farquhar who was runner-up in the
women's and Andy Spiers who got to the final of the Band 3.

- Southern Region Junior Trials
24.11.02
- Cippenham players were again successful
in the regional trials. Bradley Evans and Melanie Farquhar won the
events while 9-years old Gavin Evans showed his incredible potential by
finishing second in the boys' event. Runner-up in the girls was
Emily Tucker.

- Bucks Junior Closed 23.11.02
- Cippenham players won all the events at
the Bucks Junior Closed held on their own patch. David Hayes was
the most successful, winning JBS, CBS and JBD with Chris Hansell.
The U13BS was won by Chris Witchell. Sylvana Bielec won CGS and JGD with
Jenny Hansell, while Gemma Chapman was successful in JGS and Katy Rule
in U13GS.

- Veterans' British League 16-17.11.02
- After drawing the first match 3-3 with
Thompson Insurance the Cippenham veterans' team finished strongly with
four victories and only one set against to claim top spot at the
half-way stage in Division 2. Clive Payne extended his career
never beaten record to 40 matches while Mike Rhodes and Paul Baker both
excelled with eight wins our of ten.

- County Championships Junior Premier
Division 2-3.11.02
- The Bucks team, having to play without
Bradley Evans who was away representing England in Bratislava, found the
going tough in the Junior Premier Division played at Cippenham over the
weekend. Only one point was gained but the three matches were all
against the top three teams. The one success was a 5-5 draw with
Yorkshire in which both Gavin Evans (aged 9, and playing at number one!)
and David Hayes both beat England ranked number 10 Simon Noutch.

- Top seeds Ritchie Venner and Michele
Cohen were the worthy winners of this event. 100 entries made it
the biggest senior tournament yet at Cippenham. Good local results
came from Kimber Choda, James Milton, Mark Jackson, Melanie Farquhar and
Marc Armstrong.

- Junior British League 12-13.10.02
- There were mixed fortunes for
Cippenham's four teams at the first weekend of the Junior British
League. The girls' first team had to cope without the services of
star player Joanna Parker and currently lie third in the Premier
Division. The best performance came from the girls' second team
who also lie third in Division 1. The boys' team occupy fourth
place in Division 1 while the new girls' third team struggled in
Division 2 and lie in sixth place.

- European Women's League 12-13.10.02
- Cippenham's Joanna Parker made her debut
in the European League for England in the Division 1 group matches at
Vilnius, Lithuania. Jo won a crucial singles as England beat
Israel 3-2 but lost on her only appearance to the table in the 3-2 win
over Spain and the 0-3 defeat to the hosts.

- Anniversary Party 10.10.02
- Cippenham TTC celebrated six years of
play at their purpose-built Centre by holding a party at which the
annual Outstanding Contribution Award was presented. The winner
was Alan Farral for his weekly work taking charge of the beginners'
coaching session and then running the bar later in the evening.
Alan has been doing this for all of the six years and is the first
person to be honoured in this way twice, having been also the first
recipient in 1997.

- Club of the Year Presentation 6.10.02
- Alan Ransome OBE, Chairman of the ETTA,
presented the Club with an award for third place in the PremierClub of
the Year Excellence level. The occasion was the ETTA Southern
Region conference "Recruit and Prosper" which attracted about
30 delegates.

- Southern Region Cadet Trials 22.9.02
- Cippenham players won both events at the
regional cadet trials. 9 years-old Gavin Evans topped the boys'
list while Sylvana Bielec headed the girls. Other Cippenham
players to qualify for the national trials were Myles Evans, Matthew
Tucker, Melanie Farquhar, Caroline Linz and Rebecca Tweedy. The
club's top players were exempt.

- Cippenham Cadet 2-Star Open 15.9.02
- Melanie Farquhar and David Hayes were
the home club's star players at the Cippenham Cadet Open. Melanie
won the Girls' Singles while David lost out narrowly in the fifth game
of the Boys' Singles final. Ashley Shaw also excelled in reaching
the semi-final of the boys' event. Another good entry of 95 for a
Cippenham tournament.

- Women's British League 1st Weekend
7-8.9.02
- Cippenham made a good start to their
Premier Division campaign and are in third place of eight after the
first five matches. Two wins, two draws and a solitary defeat to
leaders Grove was the result of a good all-round team performance.

- Bucks Junior Trials 7.9.02
- Cippenham players dominated the Bucks
trials filling the top 8, top 5, top 4 and top 3 places respectively in
the junior boys', cadet boys', junior girls' and cadet girls'
categories. Bradley Evans headed both boys' events, followed by
his 9-year old brother Gavin with David Hayes third. Emily Tucker
and Caroline Linz won the girls' events.

- British League 1st Weekend
31.8-1.9.02
- Both Cippenham teams made good starts to
their British League campaigns. On home territory, the
"A" team secured six points from a possible eight and lie
third in Division 1 South, while the "B" team's five points
shows them in fourth position in Division 2 South. Richard Tilford
and Lee Dredge both made good debuts in Cippenham colours and were well
supported by the rest of the players, particularly Martin Adams, Mark
Butler, Clive Payne, Mark Jackson, Robert Hansell, Robert Lemon and
David Hayes.

- England v. Saudi Arabia 25.8.02
- Table tennis' first ever international
exchange for persons with disabilities culminated with England playing
Saudi Arabia at Cippenham in an international match for deaf
players. Watched by the First Minister of the Saudi Embassy,
England romped to a 9-1 win in the "A" team match and 6-4 in
the "B" team match. The Saudi team had been training at
Cippenham for ten days, joined on occasions by members of the England
Deaf team and members of Cippenham TTC.
