record now of Cippenham's women's team as they regained the Gainsford
Cup. Well done, Lesley Keast, Gemma Chapman and Sue Hayes.
Unfortunately, the Slough boys' team of David Hayes, Ashley Shaw and
Edward Mitchell could not quote make it a double in the Carter Cup. They
came third in a three-way tie after beating the winners Plymouth.

-

-
- Cippenham Double Group 2-Star Open
Championship 18.3.06
- Dhavat Pandja came along on the morning
of the tournament looking for a scratch entry. The non-appearance of
several players, including top seed Hari Gehlot, meant that he and three
others were allowed in and what an impression they made. Pandja swept
aside all his opponents to reach the final and then recovered from a 2-0
deficit to defeat Cippenham's own Robert Hansell. Robert, himself, had
lost his opening match in the group to another scratch entry, local
player Krzysztof Zemelka. The beaten semi-finalists were Yasir Mauthoor
and Anthony Morris. Overall impression at the first running of a
tournament in this format was very positive.
-
- British League 4th Weekend 11-12.3.06
- All three Cippenham teams finished high
in their divisions but none managed to fill the promotion spots. The
first team obtained five out of eight points in Division 1 South to
improve one place into third while the second team, despite gaining only
three points over the weekend, held on to second spot in Division 2
South & Midlands. The third team's five points saw them finish in
third place in Division 4 South & West. The best performers during
the final weekend were Martin Adams, Mark Butler and Mark Jackson who
all score six wins while Ashley Shaw and Ben Wiseman both triumphed five
times.
-
- Irish Junior Top 8 11.3.06
- David Hayes won this tournament in
Ireland and his win ensures that he keeps his number one position in the
rankings for the end of the season.
-
- Catalunya International Open 4-5.3.06

family to be tasting success on the international stage. Representing
England at the Catalunya International, he excelled in reaching the
final of the Cadet Boys' Singles and only narrowly lost that 3-2 to the
German Holte.
-
- Junior Home International
Championships 11-12-2.06
- David Hayes and Melanie Farquhar both

medals in their team event, Mel a silver for England and David a bronze for Ireland while
David secured a second bronze in the individual singles.
-
- Veterans' British League 11-12.2.06
- Three draws and two defeats were all the
the Cippenham veterans' team could muster from the final weekend of VBL
and they therefore slipped into one of the relegation positions in
Division One, albeit with the highest number of points of any relegated
side in any of the divisions. Diccon Gray was once again in magnificent
form and Paul Baker produced some good results but overall the team
performance was not quite enough.
-
- Slough League champions 9.2.06
- Cippenham Outlaws (Paul Baker; David
Hayes; Ashley Shaw; Graham Trimming; Sue Hayes) captured the Slough
League title tonight by virtue of their defeat of Burnham Panthers 9-1.
The real damage was done by the win over nearest challengers Chalfont
Argonauts 6-4 the previous week. This is the 13th time in succession
that Cippenham has won the title and the 22nd overall.
-
- Cippenham Veterans' 2-Star Open
Championships 5.2.06
- Steve Davis repeated his summer 2005
success by winning the Men's Singles title at the winter vets open.
Davis produced an array of penetrating attacking shots on both wings to
beat surprise finalist Steve Preston, conqueror of top seed Chris
Pickard in the semi-final. Regina Donovan traveled from Wales to collect
another title in the Women's Singles.
-
- English National Championships
3-5.2.06
- Yet another national champion for
Cippenham! Diccon Gray, a member of Cippenham's teams in the British
League and Veterans' British League, won the Veterans' Men's Doubles
with Trevor Kerry.
-
- Women's British League 2nd Weekend
21-22.1.06
- The non-available of number one player
Abigail Embling, due to an operation, meant that all players shifted up
one place with Melanie Farquhar promoted to the first team and Jan
Chapman drafted into the second team. The result was that both teams
dropped from third to fourth positions in their respective divisions
with only a solitary win for the first team and a draw for the second
team to show for their troubles. Mel can feel pleased with her
performance after winning three of her ten matches in the higher strata.
-
- Cippenham Young Players' New Year
Festival 14-15.1.06
- A new two-day event along the same lines
as the established Summer Festival, an open tournament of 1-star status.
Its value to the Club was, however, five stars as a huge entry kept
Organizer Ken Phillips and sixteen tables busy for two days. Two wins
each for Eddie Mitchell (U14/U12) and Rachel Farquhar (I14/U13) and one
for Melanie Farquhar (U18) kept the local flags flying.
-
- Munster Open 14-15.1.06
- David Hayes won two more events in
Ireland at the Munster Open - wins that keep him firmly placed at the
top of the Irish junior ranking list. In a very successful event, David
won both the Junior Boys' Singles and the Under-21 Men's Singles, was
runner-up in the Men's Doubles and reached the semi-final of the Men's
Singles before succumbing to the Austrian winner.
-
- British League 3rd Weekend 8.1.06
- Cippenham first two teams both won their
two matches to keep alive title hopes, albeit very faint in the first
team's case. They had two 6-2 wins, over De Vere NETTS and, more
impressively, over divisional leaders DML Woolwell. Martin Adams and
Mark Butler were unbeaten. The second team came from behind in both
matches to beat both Kingshurst Bribar and Ashford 5-3 with Steve Buck
remaining unbeaten all day. The third team lost disappointingly 6-2 to
leaders DML Woolwell II but then trounced bottom team Brighton II 7-1 to
stay in the hunt for the Division 4 title.
-
- Portuguese Youth Open 17-18.12.05
- Bradley Evans played a starring role as
he and brother Gavin, masquerading as England B, won the boys' team
event at the Portuguese Youth Open. Wins against Spain A 3-1, Italy A
3-1 and Portugal B 3-0 put them into the semi-final against France A.
Two wins from Bradley and the doubles gave England a 3-2 win, a result
repeated in the final against Portugal A when both boys won one each and
kept their unbeaten doubles record intact.
-
- British League 2nd Weekend
10-11.12.05
- A disappointing series of results and
yet the second and third teams still both lie second in their divisions,
just one point off the lead, with all to play for over the remainder of
the season. The third team have Ashley Shaw, who won all eight of his
matches, to thank for remaining unbeaten in Div 4, albeit three of the
four matches were drawn. The second team in Div 2 suffered from an
injury sustained by David Hayes in the Sunday morning practice and,
after getting three points on Saturday, drew a blank on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Club's first team's annual visit to Devon in Div 1 proved
its usual disappointment with only two points gained in a win over
Reading rivals OLOP IMPACT.
-
- Southern Region Junior Trials
3-4.12.05
- Ben Wiseman (U18 boys), Eddie Mitchell
(U13 boys) and Rachel Farquhar (U13 girls) all remained unbeaten as they
won their sections of the Southern Region Trials at Cippenham. Also
qualified for the next stage were: Ashley Shaw (U18), Matt Ashfield and
Alex Parkinson (U11).
-
- Cippenham Senior 2-Star Open
Championships 20.11.05
- Rob Lemon and Sue Hayes secured a double
win for the host club by winning the men's and women's singles events at
the 11th running of the Senior Open. In a remarkably successful day for
home players, three of the four semi-finalists in the Men's Singles were
from Cippenham. At that stage David Hayes beat top seed Robert Hansell
while Rob Lemon overcame Guildford's Adam Laws. David led 2-0 in games
and held three match points in the fifth game of the final before Rob
snatched victory 15-13.
-
- Veterans' British League 1st Weekend
12-13.11.05
- Cippenham finished the first weekend of
the VBL in third place in Division 1 with one win, three draws and a
solitary defeat in the final match. The division was so closely fought
that this final Cippenham result (5-1) was the only match in the entire
division not to finish either 3-3 or 4-2. The five points gained place
Cippenham three behind leaders Fullerians and two above bottom placed
Tameside. Diccon Gray was once again Cippenham's most consistent
performer with eight wins from his ten encounters while Mike Rhodes and
Paul Baker backed him up well with three wins apiece.
-
- County Championships Junior Premier
Division 1st Weekend 5-6.11.05
- Bucks made a great start to the defence
of their Junior Premier Division crown with an unblemished three wins in
the first weekend of matches at Cippenham. Lincolnshire (8-2), Yorkshire
(9-1) and Kent (7-3) were all beaten by the division leaders and only

Gavin, Bradley and Myles, were all unbeaten while Caroline Linz won five

England beat the might of Asia and then defeated Europe 3-1 in the final
with Gavin gaining retribution for his defeat in the European Youth
Championships against European number 3 Tomas Tregler 12-10, 11-7, 6-11,
10-12, 12-10!
-
- Hungarian Youth Open Championships
14-16.10.05
- 12-years old Gavin Evans stepped up into
the international junior (U18) arena and instantly hit gold. The same
trio that won the European cadet team title in July (Gavin, Paul

champions also. England dropped only one set (Gavin lost his match
to Poland in the semi-final) in gaining the title. The final was won 3-0
against Hungary.
-
- Junior British League 1st Weekend
8-9.10.05
- The top Cippenham girls' team is one of
four teams that will fight out for the JBL Premier Division title in the
new year. Our girls finished level on seven points with, but one set
behind, leaders Draycott & Long Eaton, who they beat 4-2, and a
point ahead of both Redland Bats and Wirral Premier. Sarah Hall (8/10),
Melanie Farquhar (6/10) and Caroline Linz (4/10) were the successful

of their divisions at the half-way stage.

tournament administration. The junior players of the year were Eddie
Mitchell (England U11 Boys' Singles champion) and Catherine Hayes
(England Cadet Girls' Doubles champion). The senior award went to Rob
Lemon who has worked his way through the Club's junior and senior teams
and whose top 100 national ranking has earned him a place in the Club's
premier team in the British League. Cippenham's Social Officer Jacquie
Lovell also made presentations to the many volunteers who keep the Club
at the forefront of English table tennis.
-
- Cippenham Cadet 2-Star Open
Championships 2.10.05
- Eddie Mitchell, the national U11
champion, added another trophy to his increasingly impressive cabinet
with the Boys' Singles title at his own club's Cadet Open. The top seed

event was Sally Hughes (Sussex).

first half of the WBL season with identical records - in third place in
their divisions with three wins and two defeats from five matches. The
first team, in the Premier Division, lost 1-5 to both DML Woolwell and
London Progress but recorded 4-2 victories over the other three teams.
Gemma Chapman won six matches while Abigail Embling, on her Cippenham
debut, and Lesley Keast both won four times. The second team had two 2-4
defeats and tasted victory twice by 5-1 and once by 6-0. Melanie
Farquhar and Sue Hayes both won seven times and Caroline Linz six.
-

maximum eight points respectively in Division 1 South and Division 2
South & Midlands. The third team, playing at Southall, secured seven
points from their matches in Division Four South and West to top the
table. There were good performances from all Cippenham players. The
first team was Martin Adams, Robert Hansell, Mark Butler and Rob Lemon.
David Hayes led the second team on both days but the remainder of the
team changed. On Saturday he was supported by Diccon Gray, Paul Baker
and Nick Hansell and on Sunday by Mark Jackson, Steve Buck (on debut)
and Mike Rhodes. The third team was Phil Clarkson, Oliver Shaw and
Ashley Shaw on both days, with Ben Wiseman (on debut) on Saturday and
Paul Baker on Sunday.
-

event and so adding a second European gold medal to his tally in as many
months. In the final Gavin scored a devastating 11-4, 11-4, 11-7 win over
Swede Anthony Tran.
