the cut from the first day. The events were won by
Greg Baker (Warwicks) and Georgina Walker (Notts).
-
- Cippenham Super League 2.4.00

tonight it was decided to organise a Cippenham Super

-
- Slough Sports Awards 24.3.00
- For the third year running Cippenham Table Tennis
Club picked up a club award at the Mayor of Slough's
1999 Sports Awards. This time it was Junior Club of
the Year, last won in 1997, and was largely
attributed to the number of recent national champions
and international players produced by the club and
the success of local teams in last season's Bromfield
Trophy, Leach Cup and Hammersley Cup, all won by
players from the Cippenham elite coaching squad.
-
- Slough League 23.3.00
- The Cippenham Pirates team (Chris Lusher; Martin
Rule; Nick Wilson; Steve Joel; Martin Adams; Clive
Payne) beat Chalfont "A" 7-3 to retain the

seventh in succession.
-
- Gainsford Cup 12.3.00
- Cippenham's women's team of Sue Collier, Samantha
Marling and Claire Plumridge just about qualified for
the national team finals in this preliminary group of
the Gainsford Cup - the first time that Cippenham has
entered a team into this competition. After losing to
Exiles (Barnets) 3-5, Cippenham beat Ellenborough
(North Middlesex) also 5-3 to force a three way tie
which saw Cippenham go through by one game.
-
- Junior British League 11/12.3.00
- Cippenham girls are the national champions - the
first national championship won by the Cippenham
club. Gemma Chapman, Emily Dearing and Joanna Parker
eclipsed their opponents to win the Premier Division
of the Junior British League at Stoke. It was a
double celebration for Cippenham whose very young
Boys' B team won Division 3A despite being rated only
fifth in the division on their rankings. David Hayes
remained unbeaten as his team won every match and he
was well supported by Thomas Mitchell and Bradley
Evans.
- Slough Closed Championships (senior events)
20.2.00
- Cippenham players again won nearly every event at the
Slough League's annual championships. Mike Rhodes was
the popular winner of the Men's Singles, for the
first time, and Andy Misseldine and Kevin Rowe
captured the Men's Doubles. For Gemma Chapman is was
"all three" as she won Ladies' Singles,
Ladies' Doubles with Sue Hayes plus the Mixed
Doubles. 11 years old David Hayes won the Division 2
Singles and the Handicap Singles while Armando Borges
lifted Division 4 Singles.
-
- Slough Closed Championships (junior events)
19.2.00
- There were three star performers at the Slough Closed
junior events. Thomas Mitchell retained his Junior
Boys' Singles title and captured the Junior Doubles

Singles and beat all the boys to win the Cadet
Singles while Bradley Evans won the U12 Singles,
Youth Division Singles and Youth Division Handicap
Singles titles.
-
- Veterans' British League 2nd weekend 5/6.2.00
- A magnificent display by the Cippenham team which won
every match over the weekend saw the Veterans'
British League Division 3 championship come to the
Slough club. Cippenham dropped only one point over
the two sessions and finished five points ahead of
their nearest rivals. Cippenham's number one, Clive
Payne went through the two weekends unbeaten in 20
matches while Mike Rhodes scored 15 and Paul Baker
10.
-
- Women's British League 2nd weekend 29/30.1.00
- Cippenham's first team, still without the services of
both Sue Collier and Kai Milvek, did enough to finish
runners-up in Division 2 thus ensuring promotion to
Division 1 for next season. This was a good all round
team performance from Gemma Chapman, Claire Plumridge
and Sue Hayes. Gemma and Sue (14/20) finished joint
third in the division's averages. The second team
also picked up two wins to move up to fourth place in
Division 3. Joanna Parker (16/20) finished fourth in
the averages.
-
- Ormesby Cup Stage 1 29.1.00
- An understrength Cippenham team crashed out at the first stage of the Ormesby Cup, suffering defeats at
the hands of Exiles (Barnets) 5-2 and Vagabonds
(Wembley/Harrow) 5-0. One bright spot for Cippenham -
two good wins for 15 years old Robert Hansell.
-
- 5th Cippenham 2 Star Open Championships
(Grand Prix) 23.1.00
- Jerome Jonah, seeded 8, came through a field of 75
players to win the Men's Singles title at the senior
Open, beating Surrey colleague Chris Beckley in the
final. Jonah had earlier knocked out top seed Simon
Rockall 19 in the third in the semi while Beckley had
got the better of veteran Steve Davis. Cippenham's
own Gemma Chapman beat Amanda Alabaster to win the
Women's Singles after defeating top seed Sarah
Horsnell in the semi.
-
- Cancellation of Cippenham Cadet Open
- Cippenham TTC regrets to announce that the annual
Cippenham Cadet 3 Star Open Championships has been
cancelled. The event, which has successfully
attracted a maximum entry of 108 each of the last two
years has fallen victim to the shambolic scheduling
of the ETTA events department who, having failed to
book a hall for the Junior British League, have now
switched the latter event to clash with the Cadet
Open on 11th March. And, oh yes, the Cadet was
previously switched from 26th March when the ETTA
moved their Junior Masters onto that date! Incredible
- sounds familiar doesn't it!
-
- 4th Cippenham Veterans' 2 Star Open
Championships 16.1.00
- Two unseeded players came through to take the main
honours at the annual veterans' bash. In the Men's
Singles Ian Girdler, a "young" veteran with
a super fast game and obviously extremely
under-ranked on the ETTA computer, came through to
defeat fifth seed Tom Carr in the final. Top seed
Steve Davis had lost to second seed Dave Crowley in
the quarters (Crowley had lost a match in his group!)
while fourth seed Derek Holman went out to Gerry
Hawkins and third seed Mike Rhodes was a victim of
Carr. In the women's event Shirley Carroll defeated
local player Jackie Thomas in the final.
-
- ETTA Junior/Cadet Trials 8-9.1.00
- Three Cippenham players qualified for the National
Junior/Cadet Masters tournaments by virtue of their
performances in the Trials at Cheltenham - and two
made it through in both events. Gemma Chapman and
national under-12 champion Jo Parker reached both the
Junior and the Cadet championships while Warren
Brooks was also successful in the Cadet Boys'. The
Masters tournaments will be held at Cippenham in
March and April.
-
- 4th Cippenham Junior 3 Star Open
Championships 2.1.00
- Cippenham's Gemma Chapman retained her Girls' Singles
title at the Cippenham Junior Open and her club
colleague Warren Brooks made it a double victory for
the host club in the Boys' Singles. Another great day
at Cippenham Table Tennis Centre as it hosted the
first open tournament in England of the new
millennium.
-
- Award for Kai
- Cippenham's Kai Milvek has been voted the third best
female player of the century in her native Estonia.
Kai has 23 national titles in singles and doubles,
has captained her country at the World Championships
and is the current World Over-40 Team Champion.
-
- National Junior League 4.12.99
- Cippenham Girls C team lead the way in the National
Junior League (Southern Region) at the half way

splits into two halves for the third series of
matches in February.
-
- Southern Region Trials 28.11.99
- The second half of the SR Trials was held at
Cippenham with Warren Brooks coming out top overall
of the U17 boys. Runner-up was another Cippenham
player John Camilleri while Tom Mitchell, unbeaten on
the day including a win over Brooks finished fourth
and Robert Hansell sixth. These four qualify for the
National Ranking Finals in January. In the Cadet
Girls' trial Hannah Stone had her best results yet
and won the event including a win over second placed
Gemma Chapman. Hannah's only reverse came against
fellow Cippenham star Francesca Parnell who finished
fourth.
-
- Bucks Junior Closed Championships 27.11.99
- Cippenham players swept all before them at the Bucks
Junior Closed played at Cippenham. For the fourth
year running all titles were won by the host club's
players. Robert Hansell showed what an improved
player he is by winning all three U17 titles - Boys'
Singles, Boys' Doubles with Thomas Mitchell and Mixed
Doubles with Emma Human. Warren Brooks won U14BS
while David Hayes was successful in U12BS. On the
girls' side Francesca Parnell capitalised on her
recent improvement by capturing U17GS while Emily
Tucker and Sylvana Bielec won U14GS and U12GS
respectively. Francesca and Emily combined to win
U17GD.
-
- St. Ives Annual Junior Team Competition
13-14.11.99
- Cippenham teams swept the board at the annual and
well supported (72 teams) St. Ives Inter-Club Team
Tournament winning all three age categories. Last
season's performance of winning the U12 and U14
titles was supplemented by the addition of U17. This
was the first time in the 15 year history of the
competition that all titles had gone to the same
club. For good measure the Cippenham "B"
teams were runners-up in U12 and third in U14 while
the third cadet (U14) team came fifth.
-
- Veterans' British League 13-14.11.99
- Cippenham lie top of the Veterans' British League
Division 3 after the first weekend of matches at
Stratford-upon-Avon. Only a draw with bottom team
Trident Blinds stopped a 100% record. Star of the
show was Clive Payne, making his debut in this
competition, who won all of his ten matches. Mike
Rhodes won seven and Paul Baker three.
-
- Bradley's debut for England 1-5.11.99
- Cippenham's 10-years old Bradley Evans, the England
U10BS champion, made his debut for England in France
at an international invitation event. Bradley was a
member of the England U12 boys' team which won the
team event and he then finished 5th in the individual
singles after finishing third in his group (the top
three all lost two matches but Bradley lost out on
the opportunity to play for positions 1 to 4).
-
- Maidenhead Charity Handicap Tournament
31.10.99
- The Maidenhead & DTTA held an event for the first
time at Cippenham TTC. There was a home winner in
Cippenham's Mike Rhodes, the most heavily handicapped
player in the event, and more good news was that
£550 was raised for the Stroke Association.
-
- Slough Hard Bat Tournament 27.10.99
- Cippenham's Mike Rhodes retained his Singles and
Doubles titles at the Slough Hard Bat Tournament
played at Cippenham tonight. His doubles partner
(drawn) was Ian Hayden (Burnham TTC) while
Cippenham's Sue Hayes was successful in the Handicap
Singles event.
-
- 2nd Cippenham Under-9/10/11 1 Star Open
Championships 24.10.99
- James Milton provided a home win for Cippenham in the
top event, the Under-9 Boys' Singles by convincingly
beating Kent's Nick Chatfield in the final. The
girls' final, an all Kent affair, was a storming
match won by Anusha Seneveratne who had to save five
match points in the second game to Gemma Yarnley.
Nick Chatfield won U10BS, Sarra Wong U10GS, Joe
Misseldine U9BS and Laura Yarnley U9GS. Perhaps the
star of the show, however, was Cippenham's own Gavin
Evans. Gavin reached the final of U10BS and the semis
of the U9BS and, incredibly the U11BS. Nothing
special about that? - Gavin is just 6 years old!!
-
- National Junior League (Southern Region)
23.10.99
- Cippenham "C" (Emily Tucker, Katherine
Tweedy, Sylvana Bielec) lead the way in the girls'
division after the first series of matches played at
Cippenham Table Tennis Centre. The boys "E"
team (Harjote Grewal, Sebastian Bielec, Jack Green)
also won all of its matches in the second division
played at Chesham High School.
-
- Junior British League (Under-17)
9/10.10.99
- Cippenham Girls "A" lead the way at the top
of the national Premier Division at the half way mark
of the season. A brilliant effort by 12-years old
Joanna Parker, who won 9 out of 10 to head the
division's averages, was well supported by Emily
Dearing and Gemma Chapman. A very young Cippenham
Boys "B" team of Thomas Mitchell (aged 12),
David Hayes (11) and Bradley Evans (10) also excelled
in topping Boys Division 3A while the Boys
"B" team (Robert Hansell, John Camilleri,
Warren Brooks) lie second in Division 1. The Girls
"B" team lie 5th in Division 2 although
they are only one point away from the third placed
team.
-
- Sue Hayes gets Outstanding Contribution Award

- Southern Region Preliminary Trials 26.9.99

cadet boys' trials, held at Cippenham, for the
national trials later in the season. Gemma Chapman
and Hannah Stone also qualified in the junior girls'.
The junior boys are half-way through and will play
further matches alongside the cadet girls in
November.
-
- Women's British League 11-12.9.99
- Cippenham I lie in second place after the first
weekend of matches in the Women's British League
Division 2 with eight points out of ten. This puts
them two points behind leaders Scottish Ladies at the
half-way stage and a healthy three points clear of
the third placed team. This was a good team
performance from Sue Hayes (80% - top of the
division's averages), Gemma Chapman (70%) and Claire
Plumridge (60%). This result was better than
anticipated as the team's two star players, Sue
Collier and Kai Milvek were both unavailable. The
second team are in fifth position in Division 3 with
four points after good performances from Jo Parker
(80%) and Emma Human (50%).
-
- Bucks county junior trials 11.9.99
- Cippenham players once again dominated the
Buckinghamshire county junior and cadet trials held
at Cippenham today. Warren Brooks beat off 37 other
competitors to win the boys' event from Robert
Hansell while, in the absence of Gemma Chapman and
Emma Human (away with the Cippenham teams at the
Women's British League) Helen Smith and Emily Tucker
claimed the top two places in the girls'. Runner-up
to Warren Brooks in the cadet boys' was Thomas
Mitchell.
-
- New coaching squads commence 8.9.99
- The structure of the Cippenham coaching scheme was
enhanced today with the introduction of a squad
system. Augmenting the already highly successful
advanced coaching structure on Monday and Friday
evenings, three squads of eight players each have
been selected for additional training on Wednesday
and Thursday evenings. Players are selected by virtue
of their position on the ETTA ranking lists. The
squads are coached by Sue Hayes (U17), Ken Phillips
(U14) and Rhys Evans (U12).
-
- Ken is ETTA Coach of the Year 4.9.99
- Ken Phillips, Cippenham TTC Chairman and Coaching
Officer was today named as the ETTA Coach of the
Year. The award was presented at the dinner midway
through the 1999 Coaching Conference at Lilleshall.
This is just reward for the man who has masterminded
Cippenham's successful coaching structure, which has
gained success with many national age group champions
and the fantastic achievement of producing all twelve
of the players who contested the finals of the U14
national team championships in June when Slough beat
High Wycombe in the Leach Cup and Maidenhead beat
Slough in the Hammersley Cup. Ken's presentation to
the Conference about the Cippenham set-up received
great acclaim and in his summing up ETTA Chairman
Alan Ransome said that what English table tennis
needs is 50 Cippenhams! Praise indeed! At the same
event Cippenham member Bob Plumridge was awarded the
ETTA Disabled Coach of the Year for his work with the
British paraplegic squad.
