Extracts of Lenton Parish Records
Baptisims, Burials & Marriages.
1540 to 1651
The following records have been transcribed from 'History of the Parish of Lenton' by John Thomas Godfrey who states in the Preface to his book :-
"I have taken this pains, not for the present age, but a future ; many things which were known to our grandsires are lost to us, and our grandchildren will search in vain for many facts which to us are most familiar."
-----------------
A sentiment with which I heartily agree and echo. G. Etchells
Whilst every effort has been made to make an accurate copy, this list must never the less be treated as a secondary source.
This is not a full transcript of the parish records, merely the records he deemed important or interesting.

The will of William Bushell, of Lenton, in the county of Nottingham, gentleman,
dated May the 22nd., 1596, was proved in the Preogative Court of York, October
the 7th. that same year. He desire thereby that his body may be interred within
the parish church of Lenton.
This entry has been obviously interpolated, probably by Robert Ollerenshawe,
vicar of Lenton, to whom this Francis Leeming was married in 1629. see that year.
"William Cliffe, minister," has not been identified
A not unusual form of registration of baptisms of illegitimate children.
Bridget Willoughby was the youngest daughter of Richard Willoughby, of Grendon,
in Warwickshire, by Elizabeth his wife, daughter of Ralph Mirian, of Lenton
