Extracts of Lenton Parish Records
Baptisims, Burials & Marriages.
1653 to 1848
The following records have been transcribed from 'History of the Parish of Lenton' by John Thomas Godfrey who states in the Preface to his book :-
"I have taken this pains, not for the present age, but a future ; many things which were known to our grandsires are lost to us, and our grandchildren will search in vain for many facts which to us are most familiar."
-----------------
A sentiment with which I heartily agree and echo. G. Etchells
Whilst every effort has been made to make an accurate copy, this list must never the less be treated as a secondary source.
This is not a full transcript of the parish records, merely the records he deemed important or interesting.

"Eldest son of the Rev. G. Browne, Vicar of Lenton.
Mr. Robert West was the son of William West was presumably buried at Lenton, but the fact is certainly open to question, for his burial is also recorded in the registers of Beeston. - See The History of the Parish and Priory of Lenton by John Thomas Godfrey page 279.
The Rev. William Rudsby is here described as vicar, though it is doubtful if he was ever fully instuted into the benefice. The Rev. Timothy Fenton, surrogate, was rector of St. Peter's, Nottingham, and previously vicar of Arnold.
The Rev. John Towne became rector of Shirland, in Derbyshire; Anne Broughton was the eldest daughter of Peter Broughton, Esq., of Lowdham, at which place she was baptised on the 22nd. of June, 1718. She survived her husband, and subsequently married the Rev. William Wheeler, vicar of Chesterfield.
Robert Lord was for some years minister of the old Presbyterian meeting-house at Knutsford, in Cheshire.
Edward Browne, "son of the Revd. G. Browne, Vicar of Lenton. Interred first in Mr. Wright's vault in Old
Church Yard, and removed from that to Porch Vault in New Church, Novr. 4th. 1842."
