John Percy Guy
John Percy Guy, my grandfather, was born on the 16th of April 1874 at Codsal, Staffordshire. He walked through King County, New Zealand in 1894, and across Thelemarken in 1895. He also travelled in Uruguay. He married Stella Anita Berrey of Hartshay, Derbyshire,
born 01 Jul 1884, Derby, (daughter of Edmund BERREY, died Nov 1950). and farmed the Hall farm Wartnaby. He bought and lived in "Gyesgarth, Eastwell: died 22 May 1955 and is buried in the graveyard of St. Michael's and all Angels Church Eastwell: Just over the orchard wall of Gyesgarth. Most of the information about the Guy family herein comes from a pedigree compiled by him in the first part of the 20th century. They had four children, three daughters and one son who was killed in the Second World War.
A contemporary of J.P.Guy, Mr Lex McLean, a weightlifter says of him in his book Health, Strength, and Beauty.:- "He stands 6ft. in height, weighs l2st. 8Ib., and measures 44in. round the chest, the only noticeable defect in Mr Guy's physique being rather a want of development in the biceps in comparison to his other measurements. His weight-lifting performances are as follow : -Right hand lift from ground to arms length above the head, 130lb.; left hand ditto, 1201b.; two-handed barbell, both hands (slow press), 10lb.; and barbell lift with one band to shoulder, 150lb. This, I admit, is very fair lifting, but, taking his physical appearance into consideration, I should expect superior work from him. The reader will, no doubt, think I am rather severe in this criticism of Mr Guy, and that it is due to professional jealousy, but such is not the case. Although not a first-class weight-lifter, he is a fine example of a naturally powerful athlete."In 1943 Two closes of 36 acres 28 perches known in Clawson from old time as 'Guy's Fields,' recovered by J.P.G. on the 3rd of November 1943, for Captain Hugh Guy.

The two set out from Crammond aboard the 16ft. Dulce after racing had been cancelled because of the 40 m.p.h. wind. About 1/2 a mile offshore they realised conditions were too rough, and as the vessel was being turned about it capsized. They managed to right it but another gust of wind blew the Dulce over.

And so to the present day land farmed and worked throughout the years is now being dispersed. I am sure this is not the will of my forefathers as according to the wills set out they have always tried to retain the land for future generations. If I ever attain the position of control over these lands I pledge to do all in my power to stop the dissipation of these lands.
I have also tried to photograph as many of the Monumental Inscriptions as possible because of the current destruction of these monuments by both vandals and church authorities alike.
As my grandfather stated before me please keep this record up to date even if the contents are of no interest to you future generations may find the contents of interest.
