One of us visited a member of the International EC Group in Hawaii in 1999, and in 2001 an American member visited us here in Hull, and again in 2003. Also in 2003 we had visitors from Australia. See our photo collection.
Our old photo collection is listed under H.O.S.G. 2001 and prior. Click to view: photos
Summer 'Picnic' 2003 - the first International picnic of the EC Group (Esophageal Cancer Email support group based in the USA), as well as a HOSG event! Picnic Photos
I spoke to David Kirby of the Oesophageal Patients Association recently about our meals out, so no doubt there will soon be organised meals out for other patients too! We keep spreading our successful ideas for the benefit of oesophageal patients everywhere!
On Saturday August 8th Marcia invited us all to a garden party lunch in her garden, after our usual meeting. The weather was wonderful as is Marcia’s garden, and a lovely afternoon ensued. Some photos are at the top of every page, and some shown here.
Our tour of the new oncology hospital at Castle Hill, Cottingham (the Queen Elizabeth Hospital) was enjoyed by all who attended, and all were very impressed. We visited in two groups, on different days, so as not to be too large a group looking around all at once
Upper GI Nurse, Ian Collins, gave an excellent tour and answered many questions from the patients. We were also shown around the new Cardiothoracic unit, where some oesophageal patients have their surgery.
All patients said that they wished this, and the new Queen Elizabeth hospital, had been available when they’d had their surgery!
The next meeting could be on a Friday afternoon! We are hoping to fit in some extra meetings between the normal bi-monthly Saturday ones. Letters and emails will be sent out as usual.
