Scotland's finest football team

It can surely be no coincidence that on the only day Elvis set foot in Britain, at Prestwick Airport, the Rovers were playing away to Ayr United. Unfortunately, Elvis forgot about the time-zone problem and missed kick-off by three hours. Some have linked the beginning of his decline to that moment. Amongst his many tribute songs to the Rovers were : "I Don't Have A Wooden Stand", "What Made Kirkcaldy Famous (made a loser out of me)", "Blue Christmas" and "Crying In The Chapel (Tavern)".

His much-documented weight problem in the Las Vegas years has often been attributed to to an unhealthy life-style, but few outside Fife are aware that this can be traced back to that fateful landing in Scotland, when he was consoled by a special delivery of mutton pies, macaroon bars and spearmint gum to make up for the lost opportunity of seeing his heroes in action.

For anyone who remains sceptical about Elvis's love of the Rovers, just ask yourself this simple question : shortly after E.P. passed away, where was it that he first re-incarnated himself as a centre-half of limited talent and long side-burns? Yes, Stark's Park and he chose the name Allan Forsyth, but no prizes for guessing his nick-name with the fans.

Such was Elvis' devotion to all things Kirkcaldy, that he even wanted to name his luxury home after one of its suburbs. However, Colonel Parker managed to persuade Elvis that 'Boreland' might not be a great draw for the fans and he agreed instead to dedicate it to his favourite defender, Alex Gray (the Colonel made a wee mistake with the spelling, though).

Finally, there is absolutely no sense in which the inclusion of Elvis Presley in this site has been an attempt at boosting its popularity by drawing in his fans from outwith Kirkcaldy. I could have done that just as easily with spurious references to the Spice Girls, Oasis or The Beatles. No, this is a genuine site based purely on fact, and in homage to the King's links with Stark's Park.
