No.22 Defiant

No.22 Defiant is on the Embsay & Bolton Abbey Railway at Skipton

History

It is a standard 14 inch diameter cylinder 0-4-0 saddle tank built by Andrew Barclay of Kilmarnock in 1952. It was bought be the Durham area of the National Coal Board and spent its initial working life as the spare engine in the Durham West area. Most of this time it was at Thorncliffe Colliery. It finally at running Fishburn Coke Works nera Darlington and was offered for tender in late 1976. It and bought and moved to the Embasy and Bolton Abbey Railway over Christmas 1976. After repainting, retubing of the boiler and fitting with vacuum brakes it was brought into service in time to haul the first official opening train in 1979.

The engine was in regular use from that time onwards and also visited a number of other railways. The engine was overhauled again in 1990 and new tyres fitted. It was finally taken out of service in the late about 1997/8.

Now needing further work to the boiler the engine is for sale and can be inspected by arrangement. Written offers for it's purchase on the basis of as seen lying at Embsay are invited.

SPARE PARTS

A set of J94 connecting and side rods is available.

A set of big end brasses is also available for Hunslet 16/18 inch engines

Two 8mm injectors for Andrew Barclay Locomotives

A quantity of aluminium 2lb per yard rail in 10 foot lengths. New and unused with fishplates and sleeper fixings.

Narrow Gauge

A 2 foot gauge Beyer Garrett 2-6-2 + 2-6-2 locomotive is for sale at the Exmoor Steam Railway at Bratton Fleming in Devon. This locomotive ran in South Africa before being re-imported back to the UK.
