- Lots of sightings of bats in the past month. We assume they are probably Pipistrelles but there may be other species which we still have to establish. The numbers of bats seen have increased through July with as many as 16 seen on 18th July over back gardens of St.Werburghs Park, over the church field, by the new barn site and over the Severn Beach railway cutting. Earliest bat seen was at 9.15 p.m. with a peak of activity around 10.00p.m. but still some activity at 10.30. There have also been some Swifts flying amongst them . Plenty of Slow Worm sightings - usually on allotments around Narroways. There was a Blackcap in the Church Field on 23rd June. A dead Hedgehog was seen on James St. There are many butterflies about - Marbled Whites especially on the flowering Greater Knapweeds in the cutting but also Meadow Browns, Speckled Wood and others. A Hummingbird Hawk Moth was seen in the backgarden of a house by the tunnel. A Green Woodpecker was seen near the Boiling Wells Lane and a pair of Moorhens on the stream there.
