- Narroways Millennium Green Trust meetings are held once a month in the St.Werburghs area -The next meeting is at 8.00 p.m. on Tuesday 4th July 2000 at The Old Fox pub in Baptist Mills. All are welcome.
Bramble cutting on Narroways
- On Sunday 18th June we attempted to clear a path through the brambles which have sprouted back up amongst our new fruit trees. However the trees are still doing well.
- Wildlife Observations - grey squirrels and slow-worms are active at this time of year
and a grass snake was seen on the steps near the new barn site. A first bat (probably a pipistrelle) of the season was seen over a back garden of St.Werburghs Park in mid-June. A chiff-chaff has been heard constantly calling near the stoney path and a green woodpecker was spotted on the Ashley Vale allotments in late May. There are blue damsel flies on the wing, as well as ladybirds and shield bugs around. Plants include the red flowered, grass vetchling and good old corky fruited water dropwort.
- Summer haycutting will be on 22nd - 23rd July starting at 11.00 on Saturday morning at the top of the hill. At 6.00 p.m. there will be a hay cutting party on the hill and we will provide food and drink. We have strimmers and other tools but do bring any sharp cutting implements and rakes/forks you have. Contact Naomi or Lhojtzaa for more details.
- Continued thanks to Sweet, Hemmings, The Millennium Commission and The Countryside Agency for funding for site improvements.
- We had a display on Narroways at The St.Werburghs City Farm Fair on Saturday 17th June. It was a glorious sunny day and we had a lot of interest - a dozen people signed up for our mailing list and lots of wildlife observations were shared.
