As many as half a dozen young yellow and black Slow-worms were seen under matting on local allotments. Some screeching and activity in the sycamore tree near the church gardens betrayed the presence of a jay. There was a strange sighting of a grey squirrel running down Ashley Hill and into the petrol station forecourt at dusk on 3rd September. A party of small birds, including long tailed tits was feeding in the hedgerow of the church field. These small finches and titmice often flock together in the autumn/winter. The stream near the old gas lamp has recently been cleared of rubbish and symbolically there was a grey wagtail back again, feeding in the fast flowing water.
