DERBYSHIRE DALES NARROW GAUGE RAILWAY

The Derbyshire Dales Narrow Gauge Railway (DDNGR) was established in 1998 by a group of dedicated volunteers to display and operate a collection of industrial locomotives and rolling stock.

The 2ft gauge railway with its station situated adjacent to Peak Rail's Picnic area (Parkside Station) runs in a southerly direction parallel with Peak Rail's track and is opposite the platform at Rowsley South Station.

There is an extensive collection of rolling stock which has been acquired over a period of 30 years from various sources and at the present time two diesel locomotives are required for the passenger service, one positioned at each end of the train, as at present there are no run-round facilities at the southern end of the line.

One of the locomotives in regular use, BR number 85049 was purchased from British Rail in 1986 (ex BR Chesterton Junction Permanent Way Depot - Ruston & Hornsby 393325 of 1956). Ex BR 85051 (also ex BR Chesterton Junction Permanent Way Depot - Ruston & Hornsby 404967 of 1957) is also used for special events. Another of the locomotives in regular use on passenger services, is Ruston & Hornsby 48DL 487963 of 1963.
