Helen's Notes

Here are some notes which show my progress up to November 1999.

  • Barbara Callaway - my great grandmother's sister.  I visited Barbara in September 1998 with my grandmother.  She gave me a lot of information on the Callaway's and also let me look at her parent's marriage certificate.  We visited again in October 1999, and she let me borrow a photo of her Mum to copy - Florence Edith Mears.  See photograph

  • Bev Greenhalgh - my third cousin.  Finding Bev in July 1999 via the Kindred Konnections web site was my first major breakthrough in my research.  She provided me with LOADS of information on the Kents, Snoswells and numerous other ancestors.  bev@iona.abel.co.uk

  • Shirley Gardiner.  I made contact with Shirley in July 1999, when she replied to my letter on behalf of her sister, Peggy Dover.  She gave me some background information on my Mum's family and also the address of Peggy's son, Barry Dover.

  • Barry Dover - my Mum's cousin.  Hearing from Barry in September 1999 was really exciting.  He explained that his father, Roy Dover had been adopted by my great grandmother, Ellen Jones.  He gave me details of his family tree and as it turns out, Roy was related to Ellen's second husband, so in actual fact we are related (by marriage) anyway !

  • David Hollingsworth - my grandmother's brother.  He gave me a call in October 1999 and gave me information which had been told to him by his father.  hollingsworth@tesco.net

  • Sidney Jarvis - my Mum's half brother.  I met Sidney for the first time in November 1999 and he very kindly gave me some photos of his family.

  • Attended a family history day in November 1999 at the Oriental and India Office Collections, British Library, London.  I would recommend this to anyone who had relatives who lived in India with either the East India Company, the British Army, the Indian Army or the Indian Civil Service.

  • Attended the Family Records Centre for the first time in April 2000 and ordered LOADS of certificates !

  • Stephen Jackson - my Mum's cousin-in-law.   Stephen sent me copies of letters and photos in June 2000 regarding my great grandmother, Ivy.

  • Joan Kent - my Dad's Aunt.  I visited Joan in July 2000, and she let me borrow some old family photos and told me more about the Galloway and Kent families.
