Sutcliffe Trophy Rules - 2002 - 2003
RULES FOR THE SUTCLIFFE TROPHY COMPETITION 1. This is an event for mixed pivot teams. All players must be members of the Hemel Hempstead Bridge Club. Any 'mix' of male/female is acceptable. 2. The competition will be played over 24 boards where possible. A player will play approximately 8 boards with each of his/her team members depending on the number of teams entered. 3. The team with the highest total of IMPs will be the winners and will be presented with the Sutcliffe Trophy at the AGM. The runners-up will receive the Sutcliffe Consolation Plate. 4. The Home Team, the first named in the pairings, is responsible for offering dates for matches in the first place.Please read the rules carefully and pass a copy to each team member.
Remember that you can have up to 6 members on your team.
You can add a new member during the year if you need to do so as long as that person is a club member,
has not played for another team and that you have registered him/her before play. Open to teams of 4, 5 or 6 members of the HHBC,
only four of whom may play in any one match. 2. The Competition shall be organised on a promotion and relegation basis with the two bottom teams going down from Division 1 and the two top teams going up from Division 2. 3. Entries should be made in writing on the relevant entry form by 1st September. 4. Teams with less than 6 players may register additional team members after the start of the competition with the prior agreement of the Competitions Secretary or a club officer. 5. No player may play for more than one team during the Competition. 6. The Competitions Secretary shall arrange a programme of matches giving the closing date for each round. The club has allocated a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday in each month for these matches to be played. Matches to be played within the month specified. See dates at the bottom of this document. 7. Matches must be played at the HHBC and the fee paid. 8. Opponents must change at half-time. 10. Full details of any dispute should be forwarded to theCompetitions Secretary within 48 hours of the match ending. 11. Captains should complete the relevant result sheet and hand it to the Director or Competitions Secretary within 3 days of the match. 12. If one team on an agreed match night fails to attend, the match may be awarded to the opposing team with a provisional score of 15 - 0. At the end of the league, the average of the non-offending team's scores in other matches to be awarded instead, if higher than 15.A concession by a team results in a 15 - 0 score for the opponents to be adjusted at the end of the league as above if necessary. 13. It is the responsibility of the Home Team to provide their opponents with three dates which must include at least two different days of the week. If these cannot be arranged, the Away Team must offer three alternative dates which must include at least two different days of the week. In the event of a problem, please contact the Competitions Secretary. Tables to be booked in advance with the Director or the Competitions Secretary. 14. If a team disbands or withdraws before completion of its fixtures, matches played against them shall be cancelled. 15. The Competition will be decided on a total VPs achieved. 16. In the event of a tie between 2 teams, the team winning the match between them shall be the winner. If their head to head resulted in 10 - 10 VPs, the IMP scores of that match will be taken into account. If still a draw, the team winning the most matches in the competition will be deemed the winner with a draw counting as half a win. f still a draw, total net IMPs from the competition will be the decider. 17. In the event that these rules do not cover a situation that may arise, the Competitions Secretary or the Club Committee will adjudicate. 18. Master points awards are for each match won or drawn andadditionally for final league placings in accordance with the EBU appropriate scale. 19. If a match, once started, cannot be completed due to one of the teams being unable to continue for any acceptable reason, the non-offending team shall be awarded 2 IMPs for each unplayed board and the results of any played boards shall stand. 20. Lateness of 60 minutes or more counts as non-arrival when Rule 12 will apply. In the event of a delay of 15 minutes or more, the non-offending teammay withdraw 2 boards for each subsequent 15 minute delay and shall be awarded 2 IMPs for each unplayed board. Teams are requested to phone the hall on 01442 213217 if delayed or unable to attend. PLEASE NOTE: ALL MATCHES TO BE PLAYED BY THE END OF MAY. Hemmings's Individual Rules - 2003 - 2004
COMPETITION RULES 1. The Hemmings will be played on four Thursday nights with different partners. All players must be paid-up members of the club. 2. The lowest score will be eliminated and the other three scores aggregated. The highest aggregate wins. It is possible to compete in the competition by playing on three nights only. 3. It is permitted to play twice with the same partner but the score achieved on the first occasion counts towards the aggregate; not the better of the two as previously. 4. Club members and visitors may play on these four evenings without standing ie normal club pairs. N B - PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILST YOU MAY STILL PLAYTWO SESSIONS WITH THE SAME PARTNER, ONLY THE RESULT FROM THE FIRST SESSION WILL COUNT - NOT THE BETTER RESULT AS PREVIOUSLY. PETER BERNER TEAMS OF 8 CHARITY COMPETITI0N TEAMS 1 (The Latecomers) AND 2 (Berhamsted Barons) drew on Total VPs with 299 each. To split the tie, the head to head result showed there was not a draw - 6-14, 19-1, 8-12, 8-12, in fact Team 1 won by 41-39. The next way of splitting the tie would have been by Total Imps, in which case Team 1 won by 7480 - 6590. Final is between Edmonds and Davies The home side is responsible for arranging the match, by suggesting three dates to the opposing side. Please notify D Stimson of the agreed date. Both Captains are responsible for completing the result slip (available on the cupboard door), which should then be sent to D Stimson. All matches to be played by 22nd March 2004 Organiser D Stimson tel 01442 392007 e-mail 1. Teams may consist of up to 6 players only 4 of whom may play in any one round.
There must be at least one member of HHBC playing at all times. 2. No team member is allowed to play for more than one team. 3. An elimination heat, based on a multiple teams event will be held at the club to determine which teams are eligible for the Knock-Out stage. 4. The Knock-Out rounds must be played at the club. Dates for completion of each round will be notified to team captains. 5. If there are 12 teams or above entering the eliminating heat, 8 will go forward to the Knock-Out stage. If there are 11 teams or less, the top 4 will qualify. 6. The team winning the qualifying evening will become home team in the next round to the last qualified team; the second team will become home team to the second to last qualified team etc. Tables must be booked with the Competitions Secretary or a committee member. It is the responsibility of the Home Team to provide their opponents with 3 dates which must include at least 2 different days of the week. If these cannot be arranged, the Away Team must offer 3 alternative dates which must also include at least 2 different days of the week. In the event of continued difficulty, the Competitions Secretary will appoint a club night upon which the tie will be settled. Non-appearance on that night will give a walkover to the attending team. 7. Lateness of 60 minutes or more counts as non-arrival and will give a walkover to the attending team. In the event of a delay of 15 minutes or more, the non-offending team may withdraw 2 boards for each subsequent 15 minute delay and they shall be awarded 2 IMPs for each unplayed board. 8. All rounds will be played over 24 boards. In the event of a tie at that stage, 2 more boards will be played, followed by 2 more and so on to determine a result. Seating positions for the extra boards shall be decided by the Captains on the toss of a coin. 9. Captains should resolve disputes on the night with advice from the Director at the club. Should this prove impossible, the Tournament Director must be informed. He/she will resolve the dispute, if necessary referring it to the Appeals Panel. 10. Results for Knock-Out rounds must be sent to the Competitions Secretary on the appropriate form within 3 days of the match. This is the responsibility of the winning team captain. 11.
