Warriors U10s Find Form
Despite the absence of regular team players Methley started with the bit between their teeth and ran all the way with ferocious determination resulting in a much improved team performance and a 52 - 16 win over an enthusiastic and sporting Wibsey Warriors side.

Strong aggressive running from James Firth, Connor Wood and Natasha Brown gave Methley a great platform and it wasn't long before man of the match Nyal Harding went over for his first try. The trys came thick and fast and some determined play from Brandon Robbins saw him rewarded with his first hat trick for the team.

Joseph Moran worked tirelesly at marker, whilst Thomas Smith and Cameron Bainbridge were solid tacklers in defence often keeping Wibsey at bay. Rhys Abbott continued is good recent form and there were promising performances from debutants Callum Sanderson and Chris Gamble.

Methley's try scores were Thomas Smith 4, Brandon Robbins 3, Nyal Harding 2, Cameron Bainbridge 1. Goals were kicked by Robbins, Smith, Abbott,Wood,Gamble, and Natasha Brown kicking her first goal for the Warriors.

Stylish Warriors in Beeston Festival Triumph
Methley Warriors U9s finished the season in style winning the Beeston Broncos rugby festival held at South Leeds Sports Centre on Saturday.

The tournament was played under the 'mod' rules in preparation for the new season, and these certainly found favour with the Warriors style of play, as they secured three excellent victories against Eastmoor, Beeston and Kippax.

There were some tremendous performances throughout the team, with terrific trys on the day coming from Thomas Smith, Thomas Greenfield, Brandon Robbins and Alastair Ward. Forwards Connor Wood, James Firth, Dominic Hanmer & Oliver Hanmer provided the team with great momentum and centres Cameron Bainbridge and Nyal harding were outstanding in the middle of the field.

Well done to all of the players who secured a second tournament win for Methley in succesive years. As always the team displayed great discipline on and off the pitch and were a credit to the club.

Warriors Under 9's Shine at Festival

Methley Warriors U9s produced some of their best rugby of the season, in the RFL Co-op Festival which was held at Oulton on Sunday, with only a narrow defeat at the hands of local rivals Oulton, preventing them from enjoying a clean sweep of victories.

A stylish win over Upton in the opening match set the standard. Uncompromising defence and quick hands in attack ensured a commanding 4 – 0 win, with tries coming from Thomas Smith (2), Alastair Ward and Thomas Greenfield.

A spirited Whinmoor team provided stiffer opposition in second match, but again the defence did their job, and a brace of tries from Thomas Greenfield secured a well deserved victory.

In the penultimate match the Warriors were up against a very strong Oulton side. Tenacious defence by both teams was the order of the day. An early score from the home team did not deter Methley and it wasn’t long before Brandon Robbins raced over following some outstanding passing.

It was unfortunate though that the match was decided in somewhat dubious fashion, with the Oulton winger clearly stepping into to touch in the build up to Oulton’s ‘winning’ try. Where was that Video Ref when you needed him.?

And despite a terrific effort in the closing minute the Warriors just could not cross the line. This was a superb performance by the Warriors and it was certainly a match that they did not deserve to lose.

The final match was against Kippax, where both teams produced some fine rugby. Thomas Smith opened the scoring for Methley with a great solo effort. But it wasn’t long before Kippax levelled with try of their own. Methley then raised their game and some superb flowing rugby took the ball to the Kippax line, before Cameron Bainbridge out-sprinted the defence to score the winning try.

Overall the Warriors played some fantastic rugby at the festival and the players should be proud of their efforts. Their ball handling skills were outstanding, and the team was regarded by those watching as the best attacking team on show. Coupled with a strong defensive effort in all matches, the team can take great encourament from their performances.

Well done to: Dominic Hanmer, Joseph Moran, Oliver Hanmer, James Firth, Connor Wood, Natasha Brown, Alastair Ward, Cameron Bainbridge, Nyal Harding, Branson Robbins, Thomas Greenfield and Thomas Smith.

Warriors Under 8s make history in Lock Lane Tournament Triumph
Methley Warriors Under 8s made history on Sunday by winning the prestigious Lock Lane Tournament, and becoming the first ever team from the club to lift a trophy.

Arriving more in hope than expectation, the Warriors were up against five other outstanding local teams, and would need to be on top of their game to stand any chance of making an impact in the competition. Fortunately the team would go on to produce their best form of the season when it really mattered.

First up was Featherstone Lions, and the Warriors showed their true potential with a stunning 12-4 victory. A hard fought 8-8 draw against East Leeds followed, but the momentum was quickly restored with a 12-0 win over a spirited Knottingley side.

Next up was arch rivals Lock Lane, a team the that would push Methley to the limit. In an end to end game which saw some outstanding rugby from boths sides, Methley fought valiantly to secure a 8-8 draw.

In the final match of the group stage Methley ensured they finished unbeaten and on top of the table with a confident 8-4 win over Cas Panthers. A fantastic achievement by any standards.

The semi-final saw a rematch with Lock Lane and this time the Warriors made no mistake, producing their best defensive effort of the day in a magnificent 8-4 victory.

The final beckoned and the much improved Featherstone Lions stood in the way of the Under 8s bringing their first ever trophy back to Methley. The Warriors howevr were simply unstoppable, producing the performance of the day in an emphatic 12-4 triumph.

The trophy was raised to huge cheers and as the celebrations started it was clear that not only was this a great triumph for the Under 8s, but it was also an outstanding achievement for the Methley Warriors Club as a whole.

Well done to all of the players who had played magnificently throughout - a real credit to the club in terms of their conduct and in the manner they played their games. Thanks also to many supporters (easily the best and most vocal) who also played their part in making this such a memorable day.

Under 8s Unbeaten at the RFL CO-OP Festival
Methley Warriors U8s produced a string of fine performances, finishing unbeaten in the RFL CO-OP Festival at Milford on Sunday 14th May 06.

It was a sluggish start though for Methley, who were far from their best in their first match, but still did enough to claim a 1-1 draw against Hunslet Warriors A. Hunslet Warriors B were next up, and this time Methley made no mistake with an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Invigorated by a diet of buns and donuts from the local Morrisons, the players maintained the momentum in their next match with another confident 4-1 win against a spirited Siegan Saints team.

The final match was against rivals Stanningley who were also boasting an unbeaten record. The Warriors performed heroically in what turned out to be the match of the tournament. They took an early lead before Stanningley responded with try of their own. But Methley bounced back with an outstanding try to take a 2-1 advantage.

It was a lead that they fought valiantly to keep, with a hugely committed defensive effort. It was very disappointing therefore that the Warriors were denied a well deserved 2-1 victory, as Stanningley went over the try line to level matters in the 13th minute of this 10 minute match.

Congratulations Methley Warriors U8s on a superb team performance throughout - you did yourselves and your club proud. Thanks also to the parents, family and friends for their fantastic vocal support - it was greatly appreciated.
