The Club was founded in 1977 following a particularly successful series of lectures given under the auspices of the Workers Education Association (W.E.A.) on "Geology and Fossils" by Dr Ellis Owen, then Head of Invertebrate Palaeontology at the Natural History Museum, London (now retired). His knowledge and enthusiasm fired the interest of the group that attended the classes such that they decided to form the Club. A number of these founder members remain to this day, and Ellis is our President.
