We have a small number of pure breed hens available each season. The breeds available in 2002/3 will be:
Welsummer: Medium/light ginger/brown birds. Their best attribute is the large brown eggs with coffee coloured freckles.
Silver Duck - Wing Welsummer: The rare version of the Welsummer laying similar eggs. The cock has a particularly attractive creamy white head and vibrant plumage.
Gold Campine: (pronounced cam-peen) Small/medium sized hen which lays pure white eggs with huge yolks. Designated 'rare breed'
Barnevelder: Large heavy Dutch breed with brown and black plumage (double-laced) and a fantastic beetle green sheen. Large brown egg layer.
Cream Legbar: An auto-sexing breed which lays blue/green eggs. Hens have a crest to their heads, which gives them a slightly ludicrous appearance. Good laying strain here.
Buff Orpington: An original English breed. Large heavy butterscotch coloured fluffy hens; extremely docile and constantly chatting to one another. Large creamy white eggs
Light Sussex: New breeding group set up. First chicks should be available in 2003
We sell chicks from day old up to point of lay - all from stock, which we have bred ourselves. The hens are hardy and raised outside on grass.
The age at which sexes can be identified varies from breed to breed. The price of growing stock increases weekly until reaching the adult price as listed.

Hatching Eggs
These are subject to availability. Whilst we make every effort to ensure the fertility of hatching eggs, we are unable to make refunds or replace eggs which do not hatch.
Stock Orders
We are unable to guarantee the sex of birds brought at pre-sexable age. The purchase of a cockerel is not obligatory. Birds can be ordered at any time but please discuss likely availability with us before ordering.
The prices shown are for collection from the above address. All orders are charged at the price ruling at the date of despatch or collection. We require a deposit of £10 on the understanding that the birds are sold subject to availability.
