Download Page for Hindi keyboard layout and font program
This download comprises:
  • A freeware keymap program, wxkbd, made by Peter Szasvari
(you should send him a donation if you think the program is worthwhile)

  • Two Hindi fonts
  • The Hindi keyboard information (already installed into wxkbd program)
  • Word document krutilay.doc showing how to type Hindi using CTRL, ALT and SHIFT keys
  • Help files for wxkbd (not really necessary unless you want to change the Hindi layout)

5 Stages to successful installation of Hindi font and Keymapping program

  1. Click on the link below to start download. If the message box asks whether you want to run the program or download, choose download, and name the folder to save the program to (eg. C:\My Downloads)
  2. Go to the folder where the setup.exe program has been downloaded and double click to run.
  3. The program will now create a new folder, hindikbd, under Program Files, and install the fonts and add a shortcut in your start menu.
  4. Start your word processing program and open the krutilay.doc file which is in the hindipc folder. Print this off for reference of how to find the Hindi characters on the keyboard. Then SWITCH OFF ALL AUTO-CORRECT facilities in your word processor. In Word, these features are under the Tools menu, Auto correct. Untick all auto-correct and spelling features. Features such as 'change to smart quotes' and 'capitalise first letters' will interfere with the Hindi keyboard layout.
  5. Go to Start menu, hindipc folder and click on the wxkbd icon to start the program. The program will minimise to the bottom of the screen. Maximise it, and highlight Kruti on the left hand column to type Hindi, and highlight Off to turn the mapping off. Simple. Remember to select a Kruti font in your Word Processor when you want to type Hindi.
