Double Neck.

Double Neck Mandolin Bazouki The Mandolin family lends itself to this type of instrument and some very interesting and versatile combinations can be made. The particular choice of instruments incorporated is of course totally variable and the ability to drone on one open tuned neck while playing the other can open up a wide range of musical possibilities.

The larger body of the guitar creates deeper resonances which give a full rich sound. An added advantage is the extra weight of the body which helps to offset the weight of the extra neck. The model shown here is a standard 6 string guitar twinned with a bouzouki. The tone of the guitar is not affected and the bouzouki has a warmth which is very effective.

This close up of the bridge shows the pickup switch which allows either or both necks to be amplified. It has proved fully effective at preventing unwanted sympathetic resonances from the unused neck .With the switch in the centre position, the effect is of a subtle reverb which is very effective on quieter tunes.

This instrument combines an Irish tuned Bouzouki (GDad) with a Tenor Mandola. The use of slotted headstocks makes tuning easier and improves the balance. The tone of the mandola is sweet and singing and the bouzouki has a warmer tone.
This combination of bass guitar and bouzouki has an acoustic pickup for the bouzouki which delivers a sound very close to a fully acoustic instrument and the solid body ensures no crosstalk between the instruments.
