Microlight Aircraft, although not difficult to fly, require flight training.
The culmination of this training leads to a PPL(A) Microlight Aircraft (Private Pilots Licence).
Microlight flying opens many doors - not only will you see new places, discover fresh angles to the ones you thought
you already new, but you find yourself a member of an exiting, growing fraternity in
which your horizons will expand and freedom will aquire a whole new meaning.
A Private Pilots Licence is required to fly all types of Microlight in the UK (3-Axis,Weightshift and Powered Parachutes). Requirements for obtaining a Powered Parachute licence is slightly different to
the other two.
To gain a unrestricted licence for weightshift or 3-axis aircraft the following
training is needed:
- The licence requires a minimum of 25 hours
of instruction to include a General Flying Test

- A minimum of 10 of these hours
must be solo flight
- The solo hours must include 2 Navigation flights of 40 nautical
miles or more over different routes.
- There are 4 written examinations, which are multiple choice, to include
Aviation Law, Meteorology and Navigation, Aircraft General, Human Performance and Limitations. Our Chief Flying Instructor is a CAA GR rated examiner
- All flight training must be carried out by qualified instructors.
- To fly solo a medical certificate is required by the pilot or student signed
by their GP.
- To fly solo a student must be over 17 years of age but dual flight
training can take place at an early age.
The first step is to take a trial flight on the
type of Microlight you are interested in, or if you are not sure why not take a lesson in both.
During this lesson you will have the chance to take control and see for yourself
the pleasure of Microlighting.
