"Healing Is Love In Action". Theo Gimbel The Hygeia College of Colour Therapy was founded by Theophilius Gimbel, the author of several books on colour and light. Theo Gimbel re-awakened interest in colour and light therapy in the 1970s and instituted many of the now well-practised methods of diagnosis and colour application, which he taught at his college in Avening, Gloucestershire. In 1984, Theo Gimbel founded the International Association of Colour, now a world-recognised organisation. In 2002 the college at Avening closed its doors. Theo and his wife, Carmel, accepted positions with the German Government to institute State Education for Colour Practitioners and planned to live in Ireland. Sadly, the beloved Theo Gimbel died on the 21st June, 2004, following illness. The illness commenced very shortly after his move to Ireland The Hygeia College in the North will continue to offer Preliminary, Foundation and Advanced Courses for students wishing to learn the comprehensive Hygeia system for the therapeutic use of colour energies. These courses are run under licence from the Hygeia Charity, which remains the Quality Assurance Authority. Please click on the links to learn more. |

In Greek mythology, Hygeia was the daughter of the Greek physician, Asclepius and granddaughter of Apollo. Asclepius was such a skilful physician that it was believed he could even raise the dead. This made Zeus jealous and he slew Asclepius with a thunderbolt. Later, the Fates rescued him and he was deified. The cult of Asclepius spread and his daughter, Hygeia, was worshipped as the goddess of health. She was associated with the moon and her father with the sun. The word 'hygiene' is derived from her name. |
