An eminent Victorian artist whose most sought-after works
are his
genre paintings. His diaries, listing over 1000 paintings
produced
between 1840 and 1910, are kept in the Victoria and Albert
Museum.
He exhibited extensively at the Royal Academy, and his
work can also
be found in the Tate Gallery, the British Museum and
the Fitzwilliam
Museum.
