Pay As You Go (PAYG) ISPs
PAYG simply means a Internet service where you pay for each connection as you make it - just like a phone call !
All
the following ISPs offer FREE sign-up, with FREE email accounts & web space,
with no other costs whatever. All you pay for are the telephone charges whilst on-line, which
are based on local call charges. If using BT, typical costs are:- Weekend:

Un-metered, or 'pre-payment', are fancy terms for paying up front for all your Internet connections! You pay a monthly fee when you register with them, & in return you get no connection charges on your phone bill! Most ISPs offering this service operate on a month-by-month basis, so you can cancel at any time. If they go out of business, at least you lose no more than one month's payment!

Broadband ( or ADSL) Internet service is typically 10 times faster than the speeds obtainable with a standard modem. In addition, you are always connected to the 'Net, & can download any file really fast, send large emails quickly. plus use your phone at the same time so no more engaged tones for your phone callers, etc etc
WARNING !!!Do be aware that with Broadband, because you're connected to the 'Net all the time your PC is on, you're much more vunerable to viruses, trojans, hackers & key loggers - do ensure that you have good Firewall & Anti-Virus programs.

The answer to this depends on how many hours per week you connect to the 'Net (which includes emailing). These figures show how little time you could spend on the Net before you equal some unmetered charges, which are roughly £2/wk. The following is based on typical BT phone charges (approx) for local rate connections. Example based on just over 3 hours per week, with a 'Pay as you Go' ISP:-
15 mins each eve Mon-Fri = 75 mins @ 1.5p/min = £1.12 If you spend more time than this on-line, then you're probably ready for Unmetered access, or even Broadband! Check out the sections above, as charges are falling all the time! Do be aware that with Broadband, as you're connected to the 'Net all the time your PC is on, you're much more vunerable to viruses, trojans, hackers & key loggers - so ensure you have good Firewall & Anti-Virus programs (email us for details of effective, free programs). The advantage of Broadband is that you can quickly download music, video or other large files & programs, as well as use your phone at the same time.
