Some time ago I decided to create a World War 2 version of the excellent WW1 air combat game BLUE MAX by GDW. I have retained the look and the gameplay of the original game as much as possible and have only added new rules when I believe they are necessary to make the game work.
The files presented here are the first of 3 complete WW2 game modules. This one contains new aircraft, special rules and a mini-campaign covering The Battle of Britain, 1940, and was first played on the 50th anniversary of the battle. It's been played regularly over the last 10 years and is still a favorite of mine.
The only other thing you will need is a set of the original BLUE MAX game (or the BLUE MAX miniatures rules released more recently, which are effectively the same except they do not have the lovely colour counters).
Here's a list of the files in this set (with some examples):-
(items 1, 2 & 3 are in both MS Word & ASCII text versions; 4 & 5 are GIFs)
In addition I made my own (sadly rather crude) colour counters for the new aircraft (a single GIF file) in case you don’t have the 1/300th miniatures.
Recently our local club started using 1/144th plastic kits. The range is limited and kits can be hard to find - but the effect is stunning!
Two more WW2 sets will be available in the near future. They are the Pacific War set (27 new aircraft plus campaign) and Defense of the Reich set (more new aircraft plus special heavy bomber rules).
I said there weren't going to be any links here but if you are interested in BLUE MAX at all you must visit the Blue Max Page maintained by Allan Wright. It's comprehensive and colourful and as close as you will get to an official website.
