About Claire
I began having Alexander Technique lessons in 1996 to address
increasing back/shoulder pain and RSI when working as a Senior Quality
Engineering Manager in the automotive industry both in England and
Japan. I associated this with my use of computers for long hours
each day.
My interest intensified as I came to realise that it was not simply
how I was using computers, but that I had developed harmful habits
and had a general lack of poise in approaching all of the activities
in my life.
This was negatively affecting both my health and my performance.
Following more lessons I began to understand the far-reaching implications
of the Alexander Technique and the need for it in society today.
Hence, I completed 3 years training to be a teacher at the STAT
accredited Victoria Training Course for the Alexander Technique
directed by Shoshana Kaminitz.
Since then, I have taught private clients aged 18 to 82, have given
presentations and workshops and supported National Events such as
‘RSI Awareness Day’ at University College London and
‘The Back Show’ at Olympia. I also teach at ArtsEd School
of Acting.
When not teaching I enjoy playing the trumpet for Church and in
a Community Dance Band as well as being an active trustee of a local
charity delivering urban re-generation.
