The Pony Club is
an international voluntary youth organisation for those interested
in ponies and riding. It was founded in England in 1929 and is
now represented in 15 countries and has a membership exceeding
100,000. The Pony Club was granted independent charitable status
on 1st January 1997 and H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh KG.KT graciously
agreed to become President. It is the largest association of riders
in the World. A majority of the most successful riders in all
disciplines of British equestrian competition have been members
of The Pony Club.
The objectives are:
- To encourage young people
to ride and to learn to enjoy all kinds of sport connected with
horses and riding.
- To provide instruction
in riding and horsemanship and to instill in members the proper
care of their animals.
- To promote the highest
ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating
strength of character and self-discipline.
Centre membership operates
in conjunction with established Branch membership where a member
may join one of 364 Branches around the country; these currently
have a membership in excess of 37,000.
Centre membership is open
to anyone under 21 years of age who does not own a pony. Members
pay an annual subscription and receive instruction at a linked
Riding Centre, this subscription constitutes membership of the
Club as a whole and includes 3rd party insurance. There are linked
Riding Centres throughout the UK and the membership scheme at
a Centre is administered by the Proprietor.
The affairs of The Pony
Club are managed by The Pony Club Council with Headquarters at
the National Agricultural Centre. Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth,
Warwickshire, CV8 2RW.
Centre membership allows the opportunity
for a Member to learn more about riding and horse and pony care.
Members are encouraged to take an interest in their work and improve
their knowledge by working toward gaining Achievement Badges (there
are 20 covering a range of subjects) and Pony Club Tests up to
'C' Standard, which would include passing the Road Safety Achievement
Badge.

addition to Pony Club Riding & Road Safety Test/Achievement
