"Unique."

  • Traditional
Ishbel can provide a full performance of unaccompanied traditional Gaelic music ranging from the achingly beautiful piobaireachd of the fourteenth century to the startlingly light hearted yet often satirical wauking songs of the women tweed workers that have evolved over generations. Her accompanying links, witty and informative, provide her audiences with a unique entry into Gaelic culture and tradition and makes her presentation a rounded and exciting entertainment.
  • General
She can vary the above programme to include songs from other cultures that have strong Gael or Celtic associations. All amusingly and knowledgeably linked with skill and sensitivity for non-Gaelic audiences.
  • Specific
Her performances are audience interactive teaching them the cultural history of Scottish Gaelic, its traditions of oral history, mouth music for dance, group tweed wauking (softening) songs, audience song participation, workshops and sing-alongs.
  • (1) Unaccompanied Traditional Singing .  Experienced and comfortable in unamplified settings or venues for many thousands, Ishbel introduces the history of the song, it’s meaning and its message from history.
  • (2) Gaelic Mouth Music . She brings this tradition alive by singing these incredibly complex and fast moving songs for dance. Their fascinating historical evolution is always explained.
  • (3) Wauking Songs . Ishbel sings and teaches these work songs of the Gael created by women with an exciting blend of melody, rhythm and lyric. (often satirical, sometimes bawdy!) Groups can quickly learn and participate, larger audiences can join in the infectious high spirited choruses.
  • (4) Workshops. Ishbel has a long experience of delivering workshops at home and abroad, introducing the rich tradition of Gaelic music and the culture from which it comes, to allow people to become involved in understanding and participating in it.
  • (5) Sing-alongs Really informal workshop sing-songs where anything goes and people can learn the songs and history of the Scottish Gael in a relaxed atmosphere

All of Ishbel’s material is introduced with informative links supporting the  delivery of the increasingly popular music of the Gael. Her performance is a complete entertainment suitable for any type of venue.
  • Designed.
Her performances can be tailored to the specific needs of any particular audience from her wide repertoire of song styles, forms of delivery and backing. She can provide musical instrument group backing if required, vocal harmony accompaniment or both. She can deliver to any part of the world (and does!) tailor-made performances to suit cost, duration, style, content and audience needs.
