Community Litter Pick
at Salthouse Beach*
(* The one beach in Marhamchurch Parish)

Can the Marhamchurch volunteers at Salthouse beach this year beat the Millook team who just pipped us last year?

(Salthouse Beach is the beach immediately west of the Bay View Inn at Widemouth Bay and is accessible from the north end of Widemouth Bay car park.

The North Cornwall Beach Ranger Service are organising pre-season Community Litter Picks on three of the local smaller beaches south of Bude over the Easter period.

The first event will be on Millook beach, 10am - 1pm on Saturday 31 March
The next will be on Salthouse beach, noon - 3pm on Saturday 7 April
The third will be on Upton beach, 9am - noon on Sunday 15 April.

These follow on from the highly successful events in Spring 2006; at Millook Beach on Sunday 9 April 2006 where a team of volunteers, together with two Beach Rangers, gathered 93 black plastic bags full of litter, and at Salthouse beach on Saturday 15 April 2006 where 21 people took part and 89 bags of litter were removed. Pipped by Millook, but still a pretty successful clean-up of 'our' beach!

More beach cleans will be scheduled in the local area throughout the summer.   If you are interested in helping, keep an eye on the articles and event advertisements in the local paper.

The Marhamchurch Parish Plan will be looking at other ways the parish can help maintain the quality of the beaches.
