My interest is due to my Father-in-law who is an ex Para from 11th Btn. in WW2. Thus most interested to read Dan Wrights story on the Veterans page. My Father-in-Law is Robert (Bob) Davenport and he now lives in Blackpool. I am trying to piece together his active service and have hit a brick wall with his drop at D-Day. He was 'on loan' from 11th Btn. to another unit (he can't recall as he has had a mild stroke) and wounded on the first night/day near Caen. He lost his best friend of 3 years on that drop and I would like to trace his grave but we don't have his name! Hopeless task perhaps but if anyone has a suggestion please e-mail me. Keep up the good work - next time Bob visits I will show him your pages. |

This would allow you to modify it to your heart's content & match it up with the rest of your site. Visit my site & see what I have done with my sign guestbook page! I leave you with one tip: to turn off all images in your guestbook all you have to do is to have your website linked to the original URL with "&images=off" added on to the end. This will cause your guestbook to always be viewed with the images off in the visitors comments field thereby letting your guestbook load faster. As an example here is how my original guestbook link looked like:View My Guestbook! Here's what my guestbook link now looks like with the images turned off: View My Guestbook! If you want more guestbook tips (like how to add music to the view guestbook), just e-mail me with your questions.Always Agnostically & non-theistically yours,John 'Proverbs 31:6-7' Mehlberg |

Was my first find and like the links to other sites. Ex-Para - 9th Independent Para Sqn, R.E. 70-72. Came out here mid 70's. Have two of my brothers living in Scotland - love the Argyll Mountains - all those trees, 'made me feel at home' when I visited one of them a few years back! Have a son who is an Officer in the Canadian Forces Reserve (still at university) who is working towards joining The Parachute Regiment after he gets his degree. - Will obviously be one of the proudest days of both our lives! I am a member of the Airborne Engineers Association (a fellow called Charlie Dunk has just started a web site for them over there - you may want to visit) as well as The Parachute Regimental Association. Anytime you want to 'chat' or just curious as to 'what's going on' this neck of the woods, drop me some e-mail. Read your guestbook - Record # 55 Rob Murray - also from British Columbia - his request was for info on Field Marshall Montgomeries quotes? I have some military biographies and one specifically on him - your welcome to give him my e-mail and I'll see what I can find for him - if he's close by? My phone: area code 604, 944-5970. Best wishes mate. Derik. |

I want to invite everyone to the CJD Voice website. Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease is a horrendous infectious fatal braiin-deteriorating disease One strain, nvCJD, is related to Mad Cow Disease in England. We have classical CJD in the US. 13% of Alzheimer patients in 1 study were found on autopsy to have CJD. Some cases are genetic. Some the cause is unknown. People have gotten CJD from contaminated cadaver-derived growth hormones (GH), surgical equipment since normal sterilization doesn't kill the infectious agent and from dura mater (used in brain surgery and other surgeries) and cornea transplants Come visit the CJD Voice website to learn more about CJD, mad cow disease and prions. |

I have a particular interest because my father served with the 11th Battalion at Arnhem. He was one of the few who made it across the river and although I never knew him (he left us during the war) I was hoping that eventually I might find somebody who did. I realise that this is a long shot given the passage of time, but one can only hope. I have his campaign medals and his military record from 1932 to the end of the war. If you have no objections I would like to forward you further details (via e-mail)at some stage. Dick Rudd |

Name: Rob Murray Website: Referred by: Net Search From: British Columbia Canada` Time: 1997-10-29 18:41:00 Comments: Hello. I am trying to find a source for a quotation my father often made about FM Bernard Montgomery. My father said that Montgomery, upon taking over the 8th Army in Egypt, took officers to task for not keeping their soldiers informed about the war. According to my father, Montgomery said he would sack any officer whose soldiers did not know where they were and why they were there. I would like to have this quote and a source for a report I am preparing on communication at work. I am a police officer and think this story - which I presume to be true - is an excellent example of someone who realized the importance of communication. I need this information quite soon. If you know of anyone who is familiar with biographies of Montgomery, I would sure appreciate having their email address. Thank you. Rob |
