History

The Lothian Branch of the Parachute Regimental Association was formed and held its first meeting in September 1988. In keeping with all Association Branches it maintains contact with Regimental Headquarters (RHQ) in Colchester, England. This can be done directly, but is primarily through regional secretaries, Lothian Branch is part of the North Region, who represent Branch interests at RHQ.The Lothian Branch was a slow starter and took many years to form compared with others in the United Kingdom. Quite why this was the case is unknown. Probably due to the fact that although the idea was good and a lot of support was promised, getting the personalities to do the leg (to our American brothers, excuse the expression) work proved difficult. We give our thanks to the founding members who put that effort and hardwork in! The Branch is approx 95 strong with a hardcore of some 40-45 who attend the monthly meetings on a regular basis. A photograph of our 1997 AGM makes up this background.

The Association is primarily open to members of the British Parachute Regiment and Airborne Forces. Overseas qualified parachutists, who have served in an Airborne Unit, may apply for affiliated membership of the Lothian Branch at the discretion of the committee. If you wish to apply for membership you will be required to provide proof of service and jump qualification. Annual fees will be in the region of, but not more than US$20 to cover the cost and postage of our quarterly newsletter. Only "Bona Fida" paratroopers and those genuinely wishing membership need apply.
