Sunday 13 October.
The
Halsey Masonic Hall, Cheshunt.
"By
the time I arrived home, I was mentally and psychologically drained.
So much to take in, so much to talk about and people to see. I spent a
few quiet moments looking at the photos and reminisced of my school
days. I can't recall a bad one among them." Just
one extract from the many letters and emails received after the
reunion. For many it was an emotional experience, meeting people they
had not seen for many years. For most it was a unique event, like
being taken back in some "Time Machine" to the moment they
last saw their school friends, picking up and carrying on as if it
were yesterday. 188
former students, including a few partners, attended the reunion, the
list on the second page has been updated as far as is possible. The
hall filled very quickly after the doors opened at 12:00 and by 12:45
nearly everyone had arrived, only a few of the name badges remained on
the table in the foyer. Bob Holder, who was greeting people as they
arrived, said that some were very apprehensive, not knowing what they
were walking into, a natural reaction if you have never done it
before. Bob also led everyone in a moment of quiet reflection, calling
to mind what the school mean to us and what it had done for us. This
was well received. There
was plenty of noise, over 150 people, trying to catch on 40 years of experiences,
creates a bit of a din. The air conditioning was turned on to cool it
down a bit. There appeared to be plenty of food left, I suppose when
everyone is "talking for England", there is little time for
eating. There
were a few school ties in evidence, still in good condition (like
their owners) and now very fashionable. One lesson learnt was that
Anno Domini does little for the eyesight and the name badges could
have been in a larger font size, duly noted. One wag quipped that if
the event had been held 40 years ago we could have booked a smaller
hall. I believe he was inferring that life had been good to most
people and there were a few extra inches on the odd waist line, surely
not!!! The
team of John Cunningham, Bob Holder, Christine Peak (Edwards) and
myself, were confident that everyone had enjoyed themselves, but of
course the success of such an event is dependant on the active
participation of those attending. There was no lack of enthusiasm from
anybody. The teams efforts were appreciated, which made
all the work worth while. The
whole event seemed to be over before it had started, as you would
expect. The general consensus was that it should not be the last
reunion. Photographs;
please send in photos of the reunion to be displayed on these pages.
If we receive too many, they will be rotated every so often, but
please submit them anyway.
