The Land of Clouds It was a beautiful sunny morning and Lottie and I had decided to go for a walk on the beach. The water was shimmering in the sun’s light as it gently lapped the shore. We were just beginning to climb the cold stone steps leading to the road when we saw it. Glistening by the shore was a giant ruby. We were half way up the steps by now but the urge to go back and get the ruby was overwhelming. We turned and began leaping down the steps three at a time. We reached the ruby just in time, the tide was coming in and if we had taken a minute longer the ruby would have been submerged in salty sea water. As we made a grab for the glistening stone a big wave whisked it further out to sea. We dived forward grabbing the stone at exactly the same moment. But as quick as a flash we were flying upwards. Our eyes were stinging so we tightly closed them, the wind was screaming past our ears. We were travelling at great speed now and before we knew it we had landed on a cloud. It was soft and fluffy and looked quite bouncy. The view that hit our eyes when we opened them was so beautiful that we stumbled backwards. There were trees and rivers, fields and animals all made out of clouds, there was a beautiful waterfall too. We slowly walked forward being careful where we walked incase we fell through the fluffy cloud. As we hopped over a small stream we heard laughing and giggling. We looked at each other in amazement and began to follow the voices. “Hello, said a small voice from behind us. We wheeled around and right in front of our eyes hovering in mid air was a fairy . It was tiny, it had green clothes and blue wings. It’s ears were huge. “Oh hello” we said at the same time "you don’t know where we are do you," we asked “Of course I do I live here” chuckled the fairy, "I'm Periwinkle, I’m a cloud fairy and this is The Land of Cloud, beautiful isn’t it?” he looked proudly at the magnificent view. “Come and meet the others” he said as he sped off. “Wait for us” we called after him. He turned around looking perplexed. We stopped panting and puffing . “Goodness you are slow”, he said “let me see if I can find a faster way for you to travel.” He whistled loudly and over the brow of the hill galloped two magnificent white horses who stopped at our feet. They stood with heads held high as proud as peacocks. They were beautiful, glistening white with flaxen manes. “Get on” said Periwinkle, “that one’s Silky” he said pointing at mine “and that one’s Star” he said pointing at Lotties. We mounted our horses and galloped after Periwinkle. We arrived at a huge sort of palace. Periwinkle led us in and introduced us to the other cloud fairies; Scarlet, Crimson, Silvie and Tixie. “Come and have some fun with us” said Crimson. We followed the fairies out mounted Silky and Star and followed the fairies into the distance. We went swimming in the river, galloping in the fields and had a picnic in the trees. Soon a week had passed and we were wondering how we would ever get home. We asked Periwinkle and he said “if you find the ruby and pick it up at the same time it will take you both home”. We were galloping through the fields when we saw it again. We stopped Silky and Star and got off. As we let Silky and Star go the ruby glistened brighter than ever. We picked it up and were flying downwards, we landed with a soft clunk and we were home. It was a wonderful feeling to be home again but the ruby didn’t stay in our hands it dissolved and vanished.
