THE PURKIS WALK - STAGE 3

ROMSEY - HURSLEY Long distance footpath(s) on route: Monarch's Way.
Distance from Romsey Romsey Roundabout. - Leave Romsey after visit to Romsey Abbey and using local information pick up the walk again in Knatchbull Close. 359201
  100 yards into Knatchbull Close, to the right of a stream, is our footpath, later signed to HALTERWORTH ENE
  At first opportunity have the stream to your right- crosssing point in photo. ENE
  Over SYMES ROAD go left and right into TADBURN MEADOW ENE
  Do not cross the bridge just past the POOP SCOOP AREA, but cross the next bridge to pass SHAUN DEWEY's memorial bench.  (last time I saw bench vandals had removed the name.) ENE >SE
  Ignore the steps ahead and keep left on main path to road. E
  At the road turn right, and 80 yards later turn left through kissing gate to right of gate. (Sorry - poor picture) S>E
  The footpath ends at Highwood Cottage.  Turn left to Stroud School   N
1.5 miles Stroud School    - 6 hours 35 minutes walking from start.  379217
  Turn right at STROUD SCHOOL, and after approx 500 yards downhill turn left along the bridleway. E>N
  Cross the ford.  Shortly afterwards, stop, look, listen and cross level crossing and keep going along tarmac road. NE
  Where lane turns hard left , cross bridge over stream on the right. ESE
  At gate follow LEFT arrow to cross field to a gate with a single arrow. ENE
  Follow arrow and cross field to next new 6-bar gate by fish farm. ENE
  Follow signed footpath through wood and beside 2 fields to Green Lane ESE
2.7 miles Green Lane 392222
  Turn left up Green Lane to Green Lane Hill ( house ) at crest of hill NE>E
  Take footpath on left across field with cattle trough and over 2 stiles. N
  At minor road, turn right past Plumtree Cottage and left to A3090 E>NE
3.6 miles Ampfield House on the A3090 Romsey to Winchester road.   7 hours 35 minutes walking from start.  398232
  After 0.4 miles along the A3090 verge and through Knapp, we join Monarch's Way through Ampfield Woods - path can be muddy - and across open  fields to Hursley.  
  Go right at the A3090, after passing pub on your right and restaurant on your left continue until you reach memorial at start of Knapp Lane.   NE
  Turn left down Knapp Lane to pass through Knapp.  Continue up Knapp Lane until Forestry sign to Hawkers Paddock.  Follow direction sign to Hawkers Paddock, a short distance further on.   NE
At HAWKERS PADDOCK take footpath to the left.  Continue until junction in path - follow footpath to right. NNE
(MW ) 100yards take footpath sign to left and enter pinewood.  Path narrows and may be muddy. ENE
(MW ) At wide track turn left and, respecting KEEP OUT sign, then almost immediately right. ENE
(MW ) Leaving woods by a stile, head straight ahead down a new avenue of trees for flat-roof building. ENE
  The red roof of a cricket pavilion is conspicuous on the left.  
(MW ) At Keble Memorial School turn right and then left at the A3090 E>N
(MW ) Pass Dolphin pub on your way to the King's Head (currently being refurbished - to re-open December 2009.)in Hursley Centre  N
