Comments:
This iron built paddler was built for the Oban to Staffa and Iona run, a route she plied until replaced in 1885 by Grenadier. Chevalier then moved to the Oban to Crinan and Oban to Fort William services until 1913, when she moved to the Broomielaw to Lochgoilhead run. She was not requisitioned for war service, remaining on the Clyde for the duration. During this time she was chartered to the Caledonian Steam Packet Co for use from Weymss Bay to Rothesay and Millport. After the war she returned to the Crinan run from Oban until her fnal season. On 25 March 1927 she was sailing to Ardrishaig when she fractured her starboard paddle wheel during a gale. Her anchors did not hold her and she was blown onto rocks off Barmore Island. Her twenty passengers, their luggage and the mail she was carrying were taken off using her lifeboats and were landed safely. She was later towed to Troon for examination but was felt to be too old to repair and was scrapped at Troon.
