Comments:
Sporting the usual SER bell tops to her funnels, the Duchess of York had a very limited time in service. She had a "turtle back" deck forward, with a somewhat exposed promenade deck for almost her full length and her three cylinder compound diagonal engines gave her an operational speed of around 18 knots. Like many of her contemporaries, she quickly became obsolete when the deepening of the harbours by dredging allowed for the larger and faster screw vessels to take their place. She was scrapped in Holland in November 1904, after only ten seasons service.
