Students entering class Grade 9 in action There are two schools in Tses; Nowak Primary School and St Therese Junior Secondary School. The secondary school is for grades 8 to 10 and has over 200 students on the roll.
Because most Namibians live in very small settlements scattered around the country, it's not possible to establish a school in each settlement. To solve this problem there is a system of schools with hostels attached. Students stay in the hostels during term time and return home during the holidays.
Working things out The staff of St Therese JSS The mother tongue here in the south is Nama and is spoken by everybody. Most people also speak Afrikaans, a language introduced by the South Africans during their time in Namibia. Soon after Independence in 1990 English was declared as the national language by the government. These are still early days and English is still a second or third language for many. English is the language of instruction in schools. Grade 9 in action Break time in the staffroom
