Tses is a Nama village 80 km north of Keetmanshoop in the Karas Region of southern Namibia. It sits on the main north-south road that stretches from Cape Town to Angola. Tses is also a station on the main railway line from Keetmanshoop to the capital, Windhoek, a journey of 500 km.
Tses has a population of over 2,000 which increases when the students return to the hostel during school time. When they leave for the holidays, Tses is a very quiet place indeed.Tses has a well-staffed clinic which looks after the health of residents and school students alike. It also has its own ambulance which was donated by Survive-Miva based in Liverpool, England. We also have a police station that covers Tses and the district around. A Post Office was recently opened to serve the community, making the 80 km trip to the nearest post office unnecessary. Other facilities include the Municipal Offices. The local Trading Store sells all the groceries required by the local community (see photo above left). Although rather isolated, Tses has a good water supply and constant electricity and good communications by road and telephone. Tses has two schools; Nowak Primary School and St Therese Junior Secondary School. These schools cater for about 500 students altogether.
