Video Games
have always had Flyers. Some people collect stamps, some comics, even cigarette
stickers. As a kid I collected Super Trump playing cards and Star Wars pictures
in bubble gum packs. Trading and collecting of this type of item has always
been popular.
Video Games have some of the best flyers of any industry.
Primarily flyers were used to advertise a new game when it was released. Back
in the 1980s before satellite, cable TV and the advent of MTV etc video games
were advertised in print. As a result there are literally hundreds of flyers.
Some of them incorporated top rate artwork and designs, some were naff.
Today a lot of the games from the 80s still stand up well against modern games
for their gameplay and longevity, but the flyers show their true age. Nothing
dates as quickly as advertising. The typeface, the clothes worn, the colours
used in some of these flyers will make you laugh and also a little embarrassed
because you were probably wearing the same clothes or thought that the advert
made the game look really cool man! But hey this was the 80s and the flyers
are the time capsules so indulge yourself, have a look I dare you!
