Individual Psychotherapy

I trained at the Chiron Centre for Body Psychotherapy and whilst I work with an integrative and eclectic approach, my work remains informed by Biodynamic and body-energetic principles. I am also much influenced by the philosophies of the existential approach which emphasize the primary importance of moving towards autonomy and self-definition through exploring possibilities of choice and responsibility in our current life situation.

A
ssessment interviews are offered initially, where you will have an opportunity to discuss your needs and also to ask any questions you may have. You will also be asked to talk about yourself and your life history. All consultations are confidential and bounded by professional codes of conduct and ethics.

I am currently a full member of the Association of Humanistic Psychology Practitioners in the category of Psychotherapist and am signatory to their Code of Ethical Principles, Code of Practice and Complaints Procedure as published March 1999. Copies of these documents can be obtained from myself or direct from the AHPP at BCM AHPP, London WC1N 3XX.

The first meeting may then be followed by a further offer of six more sessions, prior to any longer-term commitment , in order to explore your needs in some depth and establish how we may work together. You may decide at any time during this process that psychotherapy is not for you, in which case I may be able to help you find a different solution elsewhere.

Psychotherapy may be helpful in the short-term but can also extend, on a weekly basis, for any period between six months and a number of years. In general terms, psychotherapy will focus on the deeper, underlying causes of your difficulties which may be found, for example, in family patterns or long held attitudes and beliefs which you commonly take for granted. Such patterns may, on reflection, be seen to be unhelpful in your present life circumstance. In addition, my central focus will be to explore the possibilities for choice, responsibility and empowerment in your current life. My approach, and any methods employed, can always be discussed and negotiated with you if you wish, with reference to your individual needs.

My practice is in the village of Comberton, 5 miles west of Cambridge, with easy road access and ample  parking nearby.  Appointments are usually weekly, for one hour, and will be at the same time each week. For more information regarding terms and conditions click here.
