MATCH REPORT Little Gaddesden Rangers v Chipperfield
Sunday 4th Feb`01

This game was a prearranged friendly with a club who needed a game to give most of their youngsters a first taste of competitive match play.

The game was played in great spirit by both teams and both sets of parents were very vocal in their support.

We agreed to play 17 minutes each way so as to knock off the last 5 minutes or so of the game as it was raining. Experience told me that the kids lose interest in the last few minutes when soaked through!!!!

Our team comprised Gareth, Robert, Andrew, Hector, Ollie H, Walter, Alex, and Richard (the last three sharing the goal keeping).

Although Chipperfield seemed to have the "larger" kids it was clear that from the kick off our team had the better skill and awareness. In training we have concentrated on space and the use of the pitch, as most teams we play tend to play up the middle of the park and play gets very condensed. Last Sunday two of the goals came through play on the "fringes" of the swarm of players and I was well pleased that training is working.

However, the first goal was an opportune goal. The young Chipperfield keeper who otherwise played very well was unable to kick the ball clear from his penalty area and Gareth decided to kick the ball back first time, and in doing so managed to kick under the ball lofting well over the keeper into the net.

Young Oliver "tiger" Harris was on the mark slotting past the keeper just before half time, and the scoreline was reflective of the kids spirit and teamwork.

The second half was a similar pattern and the third goal (scorer unknown!) wrapped up an enjoyable game. The rain began to lash down and after a quick congrulations to all players and handshakes all round the dripping kids were dispatched to the warmth of their parents cars!

Bring on the next team - the Under 7`s Team B are a force to be reckoned with!
