Before becoming a fabulous
bass-player with ZZ Birmingham, Gareth had another life as guitarist
with Burton on Trent based Duke La Rue, formed by ace guitarist
Mick Strode in the early nineties. They had some success, supporting
Joe Louis Walker and Nanci Griffith, and appearing on the main
stage at Colne Blues Festival. In 1993 they released a CD, "One
O'Clock In The Morning", which was well received.
After the band split
Mick Strode released a solo CD, and still plays the occasional
gig - he has even stood in as guest vocalist/guitarist with the
blues band when ZZ or JJ was unable to perform. He also performed
with the band at The Top Bell for their charity gig in memory
of Vaughan Williams on November 18th, 2000.
Gareth moved on to bass
guitar, and the rest is history.
Photo shows Gareth (apparently
in pain), and Mick Strode.
